Forgotten NetFlix Reviews #8

This should have been ready to post a few weeks ago - this was all around the time of our Barcelona trip - but I forgot about it until I went back to add notes for the most recent batch of viewings. So the next one will be along shortly as well.

Damn straight Valley Girl gets at LEAST four stars. Anything less and I would have to shun you.

I was momentarily stunned to see you write, "Tarkovsky's original (* *)". But your vision is unwavering, I'll give you that. Something else you said a ways back... listen, let me know when you're ready to follow through on your threatened remake, where the monolith imparts, to the protohumans, knowledge of Kung Fu.

It has been some time since I saw the original; it is possible that the late-30s me would enjoy it more than the early-20s me did. I also freely admit to having only that one Tarkovsky data point, and have in fact been considering STALKER as a possible point of calibration.

My 2001 remake would will be awesome.

I just watched the Animaniacs version on u-tub. They went through the motions.

I just watched Sunshine & Reservoir Dogs. Sunshine is Danny Boyle's SF mission-goes-wrong movie. Very very good; parts of the visuals are kinda Dogme-ish. That is, ultra-simple effects that are very effective.

I love SUNSHINE. I think it's one of a handful of films in what I call the "I want to play this Call of Cthulhu game at a convention" genre.

I spent the whole of Ratty with my finger on the button. Every second was forced "isn't this antic and cute!". To forestall the "what happens next" blizzard, watch it backwards.

And be sure to turn the tv upside down for "The Poseidon Adventure". A child should be challenged.
