Chapter 5b

Changmin snickered at the sight of Jaejoong on top of Yunho. He hadn’t planned for the fight, but it was defiantly a plus in his book. Enjoy that position while you can Jaejoong; Yunho hyung won’t let it happen again. He had to bite his lips to contain his smile and laughter, but it stopped on its own when he saw Heechul striding their way with Leeteuk at his heels. Even though the Daeryeong was still a few buildings away, he could feel the frustration radiating off of him. “Uhh, Yunho hyung, I think-”
But when he glanced back at the fighting pair, Yunho had pinned Jaejoong on the ground with his knees on both sides of the trainee’s hips. Before anything else could be done, Heechul had stopped dead in his tracks with wide eyes staring at them.

Leeteuk nearly ran right into Heechul’s back, stopping just in time to keep away from contact. “What’s wrong sir?” The instant the question was out, he found the answer. His eyes fixed on Yunho lying on top of a trainee, hands around the trainee’s wrist and holding them on the ground while their faces were dangerously close.

Heechul’s eyes narrowed and he started walking again. “What is going on here?”

Yunho instantly jerked his head up and horrific electricity shot through his nerves. He rolled off of Jaejoong and got to his feet. “I-I was… uh-”

But Heechul cut him off. “You.” His icy gaze rested on Jaejoong. “Were you trying to cause trouble? After I showed you mercy?” Then he turned to Yunho. “And I swear-to-God if you-”

Changmin decided to step in and take control of the situation at this point. “Daeryeong Kim sir we were just demonstrating some fighting tactics. He wasn’t doing anything wrong,” he explained while he met Heechul halfway to Yunho. “I just wanted the other trainees to get a good understanding of what they should be learning. I’m sorry for the misunderstanding sir…”

Heechul directed his narrowed eyes at Changmin. “I won’t take any of this bullshit from now on,” he said with acid lacing his tongue. Everyone completely froze. No one, even Leeteuk, had ever heard the Daeryeong cuss before or put such hate in his tone, and especially not when the words were directed at Changmin. “Now do what you’re supposed to be doing and stop screwing around!” Heechul shouted. He spun around and stormed off, forgetting his initial purpose for coming to the fields in the first place.

Leeteuk quickly followed. “Sir didn’t you have to talk to them about something?” he asked while frantically trying to keep up with Heechul’s pace.

“Then go. get. them!” Heechul shouted.

“What about the training?” Leeteuk asked.

“Take over for them!”

“But I don’t know how to-”

Heechul whipped around and glared at Leeteuk with the devil in his eyes. “Don’t you dare argue with me Leeteuk! I don’t particularly give a damn what you do or do not know how to do. Just DO IT!” This time, he sped off without the other.

Leeteuk stayed in place, chewing on his bottom lip before slowly turning and walking back to the training fields. The only thing that had changed was that Jaejoong was no longer on the ground but back in the line with the other trainees. He approached Changmin and put his hand on the other’s shoulder. “Daeryeong Kim wants to see you and Soryeong Jung but… I’m not sure if you should wait until he cools off or not,” he said, his urgent tone dropping off slightly at the end.

Changmin turned his head to Yunho- who was unconsciously ogling at Jaejoong- briefly. “Is what he saw really why he was so pissed off?” he asked. He knew that something as subjectable as a training officer pinning a trainee down during a training session wouldn’t push the Daeryeong into such a rage, even if Changmin knew there was more to Yunho’s intent than just a routine drill.

Leeteuk shook his head. “There’s something else, but I think that’s what he wants to talk to you and Yunho about…” he sighed deeply. “And if he’s wearing tape on his finger, don’t say anything about it.” He gave a shudder at the memory of a lamp flying at his face the first time he saw Heechul with tape covering the gash his pen left in his skin when they were first appointed by the former Daeryeong to be officers. He had asked why Heechul was wearing tape on his finger and they ended up with no light in their shared room for a week.

Changmin took note of the advice and shuddered. Something was defiantly wrong. “Yunho hyung,” he called.

Yunho broke his gaze away from Jaejoong for Leeteuk and Changmin. The youngest tilted his head to the side, indicating that he was to come over to them. “Yeah?” he asked when he got to them. He still occasionally glanced over his shoulder at Jaejoong, who was whispering harshly with his brother.

“Daeryeong Kim wants to see us,” Changmin muttered. He searched his mind for the reason, but came up blank, so he just followed Leeteuk to the officer’s quarters. When they got to Heechul’s room, the latter waved Leeteuk off. Yunho and Changmin stood in front of Heechul in silence while he slowly massaged his temples at his desk with one hand and the other dug a pen into his fingertip.

“Heechul is everything-” Changmin began his question, stepping forward a little.

Heechul’s head snapped up. His mind was reeling at a million miles an hour but he made sure to keep his face calm; he was NOT going to let Changmin see him lose composure again. That and he had to practice keeping everything under control for what was to come in forty two days. “No Jungnyeong Shim. Both of you take a seat.” He gestured to the two chairs in front of his desk and waited for Yunho and Changmin to settle in them. “Whatever was going on in the training fields, I don’t want to know. I just never want to see it again. There are much more important matters at hand and after we are done here, I want you to inform the other officers as well. Do you understand?”

Yunho and Changmin nodded so Heechul continued. “Wonsu Kim is coming here in a month and a half. I want all of you to absolutely perfect all of your training tactics and make sure nothing is out of line from now until he leaves. That means that you punish them for any step they take out of line no matter how small. I don’t care what it is; just make sure that they learn that they will not ever make a mistake again. Oh and that one trainee that we seem to keep having problems with-”

“Jaejoong.”

Heechul raised an eyebrow at Yunho. “Excuse me?”

“That trainee you sent to the chambers last night, his name was Jaejoong,” Yunho said without even thinking about it.

Heechul narrowed his eyes. “Let me tell you something Soryeong Jung. Whatever you may think you’re feeling about him better stop before it gets any further. And I mean now.” He set the now red-tipped pen on his desk with a harsh click. “Which brings me to another point. If you see anything and I mean anything at all that might be in any way related to affection between anyone, that means between trainees, between officers, or between trainees and officers, I want both of them sent to the chambers immediately. No questions asked. Got it?”

Yunho swallowed hard but his throat remained completely dry. He had no idea why all the air seemed to have been sucked out of the room and the walls began to close in. “Of course sir. Nothing will go unpunished.” He said the words, but they felt hollow, like they had no truth behind them what-so-ever.

Changmin’s face lost all color as he watched Yunho from the corner of his eye and heard both his and Heechul’s words. A pang shot through his heart when the idea of the Daeryeong’s statement being mostly the result of his meddling with Yunho’s feelings. In other words, if Yunho slipped up around Jaejoong in even the slightest way, Yunho would get in trouble and it would be all. his. fault. “Is that really necessary sir? I mean if we step things up suddenly won’t they have more motive to rebel?”

“Speak against me again and you will not like what happens,” Heechul said coldly. Holding himself back was proving to be harder than he thought when the cracks in his mask were opening further and further with each passing second. He didn’t want to be cruel toward Changmin, but he was even more against disappointing the Wonsu. Being as harsh as possible was necessary no matter how badly he didn’t want to do it.

Jaejoong waited for the officers to turn away from him before leaning closer to Junsu. “What are they talking about? It couldn’t be about me… right?” he whispered.

“Wrong!” Junsu hissed. “From his point of view it probably looked like you two were getting it on right in front of all of us.” Junsu glanced at Yoochun for a second when he heard a snort from the latter, but quickly brushed it off. “Don’t you think you’ve gotten in enough trouble here Hyung? I mean two days and you’ve already gotten yourself into-”

Jaejoong cut him off. “I haven’t done anything wrong except want a freakin’ shower! The Jungnyeong wanted me to fight with Yunho so I did, ok? They can’t blame me for that.”

Junsu raised an eyebrow. “Yunho?”

Jaejoong shook his head as if it would erase his words. “Soryeong Jung. I meant Soryeong Jung.” He just barely managed to catch Yunho’s eye as he glanced over his shoulder and a very light shade of pink tainted Jaejoong’s cheeks.

“Honestly Hyung! Can’t you control yourself?” Junsu whispered.

“It’s not me!” Jaejoong argued.

“Well it’s not like you can blame Cupid!” Junsu nearly shouted, squeaking slightly at the end.

At that, Yoochun couldn’t help but laugh out loud, earning him a sharp glare (and a minor blush) from Junsu. Glaring and blushing Junsu= very cute, will be fun to mess with, hard to resist.

Jaejoong also caught sight of his blush as the younger faced him again, pouting slightly. It took a second for Jaejoong’s thought to register in his mind, but he got it. His eyes widened slightly and he leaned out of the line to look at a grinning Yoochun lightly brushing his fingers against Junsu’s arm; consciously or not, Jaejoong couldn’t tell. “Jeeze Su, and you’re telling me to control myself?”

Junsu’s blush deepened, turning his cheeks a mild crimson. “What are you talking about?” he asked. He really wasn’t sure what his hyung meant, just like he was unsure as to why his face felt hotter and hotter when Yoochun’s fingers kept brushing against his arm. He whipped around to face the other man. “And would you stop it??”

Yoochun’s grin fell and his quiet laughter halted immediately in attempt to feign innocence. “Stop what?”

Junsu rolled his eyes. Wasn’t this guy kind and sympathetic before? “Ugh. Whatever.” He turned to Jaejoong and snapped his fingers in front of his twin’s face. “Hey! Stop staring at him!” he snapped.

“Jealous?” Jaejoong and Yoochun asked together. Jaejoong was almost sure that Junsu’s shocked face was on the verge of exploding from all the blood that was rushing to it.

Just as Junsu was about to retort, Leeteuk returned and began barking orders. The Jungnyeong hadn’t the slightest clue as to how to train people in hand to hand combat, so he resorted to something else. “All of you!” he shouted. “Start running! Nobody takes a break or slows down until I say so, got it?” He sped back and forth in front of the line as he dished out the order, shooting a fierce glare to Jaejoong as he passed. “Run laps around the training fields without cutting any corners. If I see any of you cut a corner, slow down or, God forbid you should have even the thought of stopping, you will be punished. Now get moving!”

After a strong chorus of “sir yes sir!” the trainees took off. Junsu ran side by side with Jaejoong while Yoochun ran a good distance behind Junsu. If someone asked him why he ran behind the younger Kim twin, he would have said that it was to make sure he didn’t fall behind and get yelled at. But that wasn’t the full truth; it was mostly for the view of Junsu’s cutesy not-so-little kamo butt. He just couldn’t help it; chasing after Junsu was the only thing that kept him running forward after they had run themselves nearly to death. Yoochun tried to convince himself that his attraction was nothing more than the draw of eye candy, but his heart racing even when he wasn’t running when he was around Junsu told him differently. He knew he’d only be able to restrain his actions for so long and began planning on how to draw the younger man in without getting them both caught.

Changmin waited until the door of the Daeryeong’s room shut before he began speaking. “I’m sorry Hyung… I didn’t mean for that to-”

“Don’t apologize Changmin,” Yunho interjected. “No one got in trouble.”

Changmin stared at the floor. “I know but it could have turned out as a disaster. Did you see how pissed off Heechul was?? He yelled at me Hyung. Yelled-at-me!”

Yunho put his hand on Changmin’s shoulder, getting the other to look up at him. “Hey. He was wound up because of the Wonsu coming Min. You know that now.”

“So what? If I didn't tell you to fight Jaejoong then you wouldn’t have pinned him on the ground and Heechul wouldn’t have had a reason to flip out!” Changmin clenched his fists. “It’s all my fault…”

Yunho took his hand off of Changmin’s shoulder and lifted the latter’s chin with his finger. “No it’s not.”

It took a few seconds for Changmin to meet his eyes with Yunho’s. “How is it not?” he asked.

Yunho lips broke into a smile. He wasn’t sure where it came from, but he couldn’t help it. “Because I’ve been thinking about getting him in that position all day.”
