We decided they MUST be in the developmental class (if that's what they test into) to be in bio I so if they fall into the need for remediation, they can't push it off to the spring, either do it first thing or you can't be in the program.
But to be honest unless that student really puts for the effort, they won't b e in the program long

Coming from a university background myself, I will admit that *some* pre-requisites are just money-making things but placement tests can help to see at what level a student is and then the counselors and the students together can come up with a best course of action..but perhaps that is an idyllic way of thinking...

Believe me I think they should do remediation BEFORE the course work. We all do but the people making these decisions aren't educators and try to treat everything like a business and it doesn't work that way.
and no not idyllic that is how advising works but then your hands get tied
