So I started going to a personal trainer two weeks ago and I'm fairly convinced he is insane. But I can already tell I have more muscle on my shoulders and arms and that's really exciting. Ohh the pain.

Hey, good for you. Advil is good for muscle pain.
But don't kill yourself. Ease into it.It's not how much you do in every session that counts.Doing a little bit regularly over a long period of time is better. Personal trainers are masochists and think that you ought to be one too.I think they have low self-esteem and this is their way to take it out on their surroundings.
If you keep at it long enough there comes a time when you'll look forward to working out and miss it if you stop. I think it has to do with endomorphin withdrawal.
