...There's no way that a younger sibling can be like the older, right?

[ooc: Possible manga spoilers for this one, folks. Proceed with caution.]

Me and my younger brother are the furthest thing from being alike. So I'd have to go with a loud no.

What brought this question on?

everyone's got the urge to spit out their weaknesses.

If the younger sibling is very fortunate.

So luck plays a role according to you.

Perseverance, more so. And not merely in terms of striving to be like an elder sibling.

It takes perseverance to stand on your own.

[Funny. That's what he's doing, but still, he feels so...]

So what if you've done that already?

I think that depends on the siblings. My big brother was kinda my hero growing up but sometimes we're as different as night and day. Other times, you'd think we're twins or something.

[Maybe it was like that at one point, but not now - the hero thing at least]

definitely not twins.

[and a couple minutes later:]

was your brother better at you at something?

Definitely. He still is with some things, not for a lack of trying though. I think it's just part of the role of big brother. Gives us little brothers something to work for.

is it that important to be like your sibling? shouldn't it be more important to be yourself?

I don't think so? [Because she and Sokka are so not similar.] I mean my brother and I are completely different.

Guess I should've worded it better.

What do you think, Katara? Can one sibling be better than the other?

Reply

drizzlinginside June 9 2011, 05:34:48 UTC
Well, there are times the other is better. For example, Sokka's better at strategizing than me. But, I can do waterbending and he can't.

Say you had to be good at the same thing, had to be their level, and probably expected to be. Then what?
