SG-1 background episodes to Atlantis

Hey there! I have apparently talked enough about Stargate to a fellow scifi fan enough that she has started to dabble with watching the episodes. She has heard from multiple people (not just me!) that Stargate: Atlantis is the best of the three - which makes me so, so happy - but she is a little overwhelmed at the idea of watching ten season of SG- ( Read more... )

Why does she have to watch SG1 in order to watch SGA ( ... )

She doesn't have to, and she knows this, but she wants to. She knows SGA was a spinoff of SG1 and wants to see the episodes that helped set that up.

While there are a few dicey episodes of SG1 (especially in that first season), I did enjoy it quite a bit overall. I always found Richard Dean Anderson fun to watch as O'Neill.

Speaking of SGA - that's what fanfic is for, right?! There are endless possibilities for stories in this world, so what the show didn't do, we now can! :)

Of course and they do a far better job than those writers appear to have been able to do with SGA
Sorry, but the more I read ff I realize how far they missed the mark. Sad for us....could have been so much better and longer running.

well... Just stuff that deals with Ancients (which is really spread over a lot of episodes, most of which would need a lot of background to understand)?

-Children of the Gods (1st episode to get the feel for what the whole thing is about)
-Fifth Race (talks about ancients & asgard)
-Maternal Instinct (Oma)
-Absolute Power (maybe)
-Ascension
-Lost City 1&2

Once she starts watching SGA, she'll probably be interested in
-The Pegasus project
-The Road not Taken

You don't need New Order (only a little deals with ancient, and might need a lot of explaining) or Moebius (it's cool, but not ancient stuff). I wasn't all that impressed by Frozen.

The part is there is so much about the Ancients sprinkled through SG-1, where a lot of the episodes aren't necessarily about them, but you do learn something cool. I was thinking Frozen just because I think that's where you get the idea of an Ancient plague? I can't remember now... it's been too long! I'd forgotten about Maternal Instinct - that's a pretty good one in regards to introducing the whole ascension thing. Thanks!!

I think Frozen should be included in the list. I've been such a long while since I've watched SG1 that I don't remember which eps deal with ascention. Which is the one that Daniel has to take the baby to that Ancient temple? It was right after his wife died. I think that was the first that it was mentioned? I think I need to go back and watch those eps myself. xD

I'd forgotten about the one where Daniel takes the baby to that Ancient temple. I think I'll try to stick to the episodes that deal mainly with their search for the Lost City. If she's going to watch all the episodes about the Ancients, she might as well just watch all of SG1 (then tell me which ones are about the Ancients cause I don't remember specifically anymore.):D
