Um, as far as the looking for a play idea thing heres my recommendation. Plop yourself down in a public place and watch people. Catch some sort of interaction/snippet of conversation and just start to create a story of what leads up to and stems from that. Ideally the snippet of conversation is exciting yet vague enough that you can really be creative.
Thas my little trick for coming up with plots. The plus side of it, especially if you're doing a play, is you can directly quote that little bit, so you've already got part of it written for you :P. You can build off the speakers manerisms and speech patterns and such.
i used to do that all the time when i wrote short stories. i also used to get on the subway in new york and ride it all the way from one end to the other and just watch people and and see where they got on and see where they got off and i would decide where they came from and where they were going and why and write stories about it. i agree with you on that...i'm a big fan of people watching/eavesdropping as a writing prompt...
perhaps i need to get on the subway to find my play...i had forgotten about how i used to do that.
