I had an appointment with my landscape architect (hahahahaha) on Saturday morning to discuss my plans for the front foundation planting... and to eat quiche and hang out.  Thanks, _meej_ !   I'm trying to walk the line between being excited about this so wanting to plan a ton of stuff, versus biting off more than I can chew or starting things I can't ( Read more... )

Oh yay! Let me know how your vertical apple trees do -- I've been looking at them for quite a while, but I've never had enough confidence to commit to them.

As for the serviceberries, I don't think you'll be disappointed in their tastes. They make the loveliest jam, and the seeds taste faintly of amaretto. I love them picked fresh or cooked.

If you can pull them off, the peewee kiwis are SO TASTY. Someone at our farmer's market had them for sale last year, and they're really, really good. Exactly like kiwis in taste, only without the fuzz and the size of green grapes. Yum.

Oh, and at first I read the start of the backyard paragraph as "into the back yard go the man-eating plants" which sounded more interesting than I remembered discussing...
