I ordered the book "Stuff: Compulsive Hoarding and the Meaning of Things" from the library today.

This is a book I very much want to read, but I don't want to own.

Aren't libraries awesome?!

I may have already recommended these, but check yours for any books in the "messies" series. (If You Live With a Messie is one I remember.) Kind of an annoying name, but some really good insights into hoarding. I changed a lot after reading it.

Thanks! My own relationship with stuff varies, but I grew up with it big time. The authors of the Stuff book were on Fresh Air a few days ago and I found it pretty sobering, both in the "I'm way better off than some folks" sense and the "so that's why I do that" sense.

I heard them on the radio too, with approximately the same reaction!

I did a bit of googlewikipedia-ing a while back on the subject. Here's a quote I remember: "I am saving these newspapers so that when my brother regains his eyesight he can catch up on things."
