Sadly this time I might be not so much of help Corinee-chan.
I never had those problems, although I am always very cautious to savely disconnect the external HDDs while the PC is still running with this special button in the lower right corner, for safely deplugging external drives. Since sometimes the writing and stuff might be not done or so and this could be bad for the drive. I had something like that with a USB stick when I did not safely unplug it and all the copied data went missing on it ...

The only way to check up the HDD would be probably to plug it into the PC itself .. but that's some work. Maybe you should first check if your External HDD case is in good shape , or better if there is no accidentely disconnected or loose cable inside or so .. which souldn't but can happen ....

I hope it works out too because I have majority of the dramas I'm downloading for you on it. :(

It's working now, so all the downloads are still there. :D Thank goodness. Hopefully I'll be able to download all of the dramas soon, but I might wait till the fansubbed dramas are done before sending everything out to you. Hope you don't mind.

What's the difference between the two external HDs?

Are they the same make and brand?

If not, which one is older and how old?

What's the difference between the two external HDs?

Nothing, other than different files.

Are they the same make and brand?

Both are the same.

If not, which one is older and how old?

The old one works, the new one doesn't.

I couldn't use it at work, so I tried it again with the desktop. This time it worked! :D I think it was being temperamental. Very strange, but I'm so thrilled that I don't have to re-download everything i had on it again. Thanks for all your help! ^_^
