Today was irresistible.

When the library called, I'd just finished a novel.  [I'm not sure why it is, but I can't hang up on that automated message.  She sounds so prim, so precise - I have to listen to the entire message and then thank the machine at the end.  I'm not sure anyone else does this, but it's a compulsion. I dunno. For authors on my always-read list, I would probably try to avoid reading the summary anyway (in case it contained spoilers).

They may have netted Mr. King an angry fan letter at the same time.

Please note, when you're doing this, that authors -- even like unto Mr. King -- have no control over their publisher's art department. (The matter of atrocious covers is one of those topics that's a guaranteed "push this button, receive heartfelt rant" topic among authors.) They may, if they are lucky, have the option of reviewing the art beforehand, and if they are very lucky, have the option of a re-roll. Which they then have to live with, even if it's worse.

The angry fan letter may or may not do more good at the publishing house, but it would at least be aimed at the right target.
