so, as some of y'all may have noticed, i'm volunteering for the otw's accessiblity, design, & technology committee. this is cool! in fact, it's so cool that i kind of want to put it on my resume. this wouldn't be a problem except that i kind of don't want this lj on my resume; yes, we're launching into the half-year period during which i talk ( Read more... )

No, no, what you should do is _________.

What you should do, is *first* change your name on the OTW stuff. If you're volunteering under Realname and you're just chatting about it under LJname, does that give you plausible deniability?

If you are one of many volunteers working in that area, then yes. If you are doing unique stuff, then no.

It might also depend on how OTW stuff works -- will there be a paper trail or comments trail anywhere on the web (ie, anywhere google-able) that makes it obvious that Realname and LJname are both you?

For that matter, are your LJ entries google-able? F-locking entries is your friend.

I don't think separating real name and changing lj name is a bad thing. But I'm seriously paranoid about anyone finding out about my LJ antics. *g*

I sort of wonder if my answers make sense. But what I think you should do is, either (a) stay here and lighten up about it, or (b) get a rename token or something - because if you ask me, this is an LJ with your real name. More so than mine is an LJ with my real name, anyway. I mean, I realize that we're both sort of on a cusp, but I think you're on a different part of the cusp than I am. Basically, though, bottom line, I want you to do whatever it is you need to do for this all to have as little impact on me as possible, that is, come back here and resume your life among us, on this LJ or one very like it, so I don't have to monkey around too much with my flist, filters, etc., etc. [bats eyelashes ravenclawishly]

Yeah, I think of this as an LJ with pretty much your real name! I'm not sure how the OTW stuff is working, though, or how you could admit to it resume-wise and use one name there and if that could still connect here.

I do vote for staying on LJ. Going back and Flocking everything would be annoying, I'm sure. Though that's one reason I flock almost everything, because whiel it's not MY name, it's not hard to find me and see that it's me...

I'm confused! I think you should get a rename token for this journal and change it to something less real-name-sounding, then use a realish-name for OTW.

...did that make any sense at all?

Well, you know I've have to do something of the sort already. Not because I was using my real name but because I was foolish enough to not friends lock something that was google a ble from real life so that someone found me. I'm glad it wasn't over something that was really THAT important but it did let me know that I needed to be more careful. While I love the name quyllur, I really do miss using my other lj name.

You might have to rename your fannish lj and friends lock it for a while, and then use a more real life name for things that have to do with work. There is no need for your professional life and fannish life to mesh.
