You know that I was clearly rooting for a different actress to get the part, and I was initially like "oh noooooo" to the first Jennifer Lawrence rumor, but the moment people started getting ANGRY about it, my ability to feel concern just kind of shut down. I mean, people can feel however they want, but I personally am backing away from this. Slowly.

Yeah, I didn't even care for any of the suggestions really. I would have preferred an unknown. But if the people behind the movie were THAT impressed with her, sure, whatever, it's their movie. I can't get THAT worked up over it. It's not like I can do anything.

Well, if Suzanne Collins, who created the character, is happy with her... I don't know what more people can say, at least until they see Lawrence in character for themselves. And I know, I know, "of course she's going to say something positive," but... what she said sounded pretty genuinely gushy.

I don't understand why I care so much about the Katniss casting, I haven't even read the books! Hailee Steinfeld just looked so freaking adorable at all the red carpets that I want her to get all the roles.

Never saw Winter's Bone, but it's obvious that actress isn't really blonde, if that's what many people are worried about. Check out those roots, dude.

Though, saying Katniss "leads" a revolution is a bit of an overstatement, methinks....

I think people are more worried about her skin colour than her hair colour, given that she's described as olive-skinned, dark-haired, possibly biracial; the hair colour is really only a part of it.

Also the casting call specifically stated that the actress must be caucasian, so no matter what kind of an actress non-caucasians were they were not in the running - clearly they were determined to have someone who is white, and not to have someone who is not, not matter how qualified. So that made a lot of people unhappy to start with.

I was under the impression that the casting call (horribly worded as it was) wasn't that important to the overall casting. It might not have been issued by Lionsgate at all but by some talent agency or other. But they did audition a few actresses who weren't white (Lyndsy Fonseca, Hailee Steinfeld), so I'm not sure how important that casting call was.

But I agree I think it made a lot of people angry (justly so), so it makes the casting ~seem more sketchy than it actually is.

See, I've never quite understood where people are getting "biracial" as a descriptor from. My reading of the text was that she was a dark-haired, olive-skinned white girl. Now, there may be something about Appalachian culture I'm not grasping here. But I feel like we're getting down to the point where "We chose a blonde" (is that even her natural hair color?) "white girl over a darker white girl because we felt she was the best choice for the role." I know "she was the best choice" is often bullshit for "among the blonde white girls we were willing to consider in the first place," but when you get an Oscar nominee, I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt. They really were considering Hailee Steinfeld at one point, and she apparently has some Jewish and Filipino background, so they really were willing to consider someone who was not a WASPy blonde. I don't know. I really feel like Airbender was something worth protesting, given how flagrantly they didn't care about a largely non-white cast of characters. I don't know that this

Jennifer Lawrence is a good actress, and I'm sure she'll be fine as Katniss, but I just don't see how these movies aren't going to be a disaster if they're going to stick with the PG-13. I have a feeling they're going to really emphasize the romance angle in order to make up for everything they're going to have to cut and, just, bleh.

That Wonder Woman costume looks like something you'd find in a Party Warehouse bargain bin the day after Halloween. Yeesh.

Yeah. My real problem isn't the cleavage or the pants; it's how cheap and tacky the fabric looks.
