What Have You Been Doing?

..Playing a lot of Kerbal Space Program(Demo) apparently.
It IS only the Demo, but I had a fun time. If you have the space bug and can't run Orbiter for some reason, or want something tamer, KSP is the way to go I think.

YAY KERBALS! I paid for the game when Squad ran their first fund-raiser - best $8 spent ever! I've just picked up v1.0.5 restarted the career path. You need the FAR mod because the aerodynamics are a bastard. I've never landed a 3 Kerbal Crew on Mun, though. That's a future goal.

I've been looking around for 2nd hand CNC mills to complement my 3D printer. I don't have the $$ to buy one at the moment. 8(

8$? I'd say 'You Lucky Dog', But that's not luck, that's foresight and good taste.. :D
they want $40 for it now. :(

Not sure what version the Demo I'm using is based on, but I'm seeing that too. Heard that an 'infinity flyer' can be done in the Demo but not tried it myself.

Have you thought about making one? That was my original plan for a metal lathe.. (and from there into a home built mendel.. and then a Large CNC zipsaw mill for plywood) But then I lucked into the South Bend at a used tool/hardware store (Hardwick and Sons) just as it came up for sale. And someone gave me their old PrintRbot Jr.

If your printer does ABS then you can probably make a lot of the mounts and things..

I think the demo is 0.9 - the last version before 1.0 was released. You can do infinity gliders in that version but not in later versions. And 0.9 lets you do a vertical drop from sub-orbit and slow down to parachute speeds. You can't do that in v1+ because you'll over heat or impact long before you go subsonic.

My printer uses ABS filaments, and I use Solidworks to do the design so creating fittings is not a problem. I am currently on a subsistence income, so money is a problem. :( I can't afford to buy anything that is not food, services, or tax. (Bloody tax office hit me with a big bill for student loans.) I do freelance engineering drawings, 3D design and 3D printing, and business isn't good right now.

I took a look and the startup screen has it as: v0.18.3(Demo)

I thought it was too easy to get my pilots back to Kerbal. a Lot of times I was just aiming for a grazing orbit, using the RCS thruster mono-propellant, having used the last of my fuel lifting off from the Mun. :P

I'm on Disability myself.. So I can commiserate on the lack of cash thing. It's always lack of one or the other, time or money. I'm a scavenger myself so I have a few stepper motors (from old printers) and bearings (from discarded inline skates) and some old computers (dell GX150's) to use as controlers (running ubuntu 10.4 + CNC2), stepper drivers are fairly cheap nowdays. :D For me it's the health issues and lack of space..
