Fic: The Do That Girl (draft)

Apr 12, 2009 17:11

Nothing terribly important to report, except that the desire to write fic has been a little stronger the last two weeks. only_passenger and I have been throwing some ideas back and forth, which motivated me to take a peek at my WIP folder this afternoon and see what's knocking around in there. Three fics stood out to me as particularly well-written ( Read more... )

draft, one shot, fic, faith/other

I can appreciate the erotic elements in this story but I feel such a overwhelming sense of sadness.
Maybe it’s because they’ve known each other so long and he can remember what she was like before things got meaningless and were done just to pass the time.

Pity for the young Danny. “I gotta get out of here”.
Sorrow for the young Faith who doesn't or can't relate to Danny except for the playground sex that they allow each other. And the final gift before he leaves.

It is sad, for sure. They're two stuck kids with few resources or options available to them. Danny signs up for army service and Faith is given little choice in the matter when she becomes a Slayer. But, they find a bit of comfort where they can, as young as they are. It was fun thinking about what Faith's background may have been, what sad forces shaped her to be the edgy, guarded girl she is.

Sorrow for the young Faith who doesn't or can't relate to Danny except for the playground sex that they allow each other.I think the point is that Faith does care, but she's so guarded that it's not easy for her to let anyone in. She relies on herself, can't rely on anyone to stay. I think it's one of those parallels between Faith and Buffy that make them alike. They are their own islands, except that Buffy has people to bring her out of herself and Faith doesn't ( ... )

So does this mean you are back to writing fic again, or just cleaning out the (mostly) completed stuff?

Just cleaning out the mostly completed stuff. I've been trying to get more into a fic mindset, but there's still little time to actively work on anything. I haven't been reading, either. Sonya and I have been talking about lynnevitational and I was just pondering what I would contribute if I end up writing. That's sort of where this post came from. Finishing up my Faith/Giles would be nice (as I have quite a bit written of it), or trying to work fresh on that far future Spike/Dawn thing. Of course, this is all just fantasy. Ideas, but not much else.

I saw you got a few awards at Spark and Burn. Many congrats. I'll probably make a wee award post later on. Very pleased to see that Acts of Contrition and Window Dressing got awards, since I love them so.

Congrats to you, too! Just the one at S&B for me.

I started thinking about my mostly completed stuff again recently. I had three or four in Dec/Jan that I never quite finished, and I pulled one of them out the other day. Wouldn't mind having you take a look at it if you have time.

Sure, I can take a look. Best time for me is the weekends, though. Between gym and friend outings during the week, I usually go home to shower/eat/sleep and not much else.

Based on the response to this post, it looks like a) everyone has forgotten me or b) no one cares to read about Faith/Other. Hm. Well, I like it, damnit! If I could just figure out what to do with what I have, though. Blah.

That was so sad. And so, so sexy to. And so Faith. I think you got her perfectly in this. Wonderful work. :-)

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it. Faith is such a sad girl (all of them are, aren't they?), and I like exploring what makes her bleed. I hope I'll have some time to work on the other Faith bits in the WIP folder. She's sad there, too.

Let's face it... I'm happy when the angst is flowing! The girls go through a lot of emotional pain my hands, that's for sure.

Oh, I am a sucker for angst to. :-) No matter what fandom I am in, I get hooked on the angsty characters. :-P

This is sad and reeks of desperation. You've given us a background that is hard and uncompromising, and one that fits Faith to a tee.

I imagine that Faith had a very tough life even before we see her slide to rock bottom in AtS/BtVS, and this is just one sad possibility. Something I wanted to show here is that Faith is not inherently bad. She's a victim of circumstance. She's not hard because it's inherent, but rather it's the only way she knows how to survive and protect herself. Being a Slayer offered her a way to escape, gave meaning to her life, but without guidance she didn't know how to properly channel that power.

She's got so much good in her. It just took her a long time, and a lot of sactifice, to find it. Poor girl *pet her*

This is a powerful, very sad piece. I like how Faith allows herself to connect a bit at the end with Danny although she'd never admit it.

Thanks for commenting. Faith's guarded, but she's not without heart. When you've been screwed over so many times, it's tough to open yourself up to people. I think she's possibly the saddest, most tragic character on the show. Poor girl.
