Mid-week beach going is the natural privilege of all coastal-dwelling people, but writers need it especially. Something about the cleansing sea air, I'm sure!
I tend to agree with you about the truncated nature of the action in the comic, particularly your characterization of "jarring". I felt the same way when I first picked it up. It just isn't the same experience, though I am trying to enjoy it in its own right. I'm thinking of it as really interesting fanfic. Is that blasphemy?
Also, I have to hate you a little bit for having legs that amazing. ;)
Mid-week beach going is the natural privilege of all coastal-dwelling people, but writers need it especially. Unfortunately, our beach going in NYC is pretty seasonal (unlike Florida or points South). You can only swim comfortably for about 4 months out of the year. The rest of the time it's far too cold. That Atlantic water really bites. As for writing near the water, I really enjoy it. You can just make out my fanfic notebook on the bottom lefthand side of the photo.
I'm thinking of it as really interesting fanfic. Is that blasphemy? Mmm, blasphemy sounds like such a strong word. But I will say I've read a good many fanfic that had a better, more cohesive plot than that first story-arc.
Also, I have to hate you a little bit for having legs that amazing. ;) Why, thank you. It's actually a bit of an illusion. I'm not even really that tall. Only 5'6", but I've got these disproportionately long legs. It's hilarious when I sit next to someone. Looks like I'm in a hole because of my short torso.
I'm from northern California, myself, so actually swimming in the ocean is kind of a novelty for me, LOL! Not only does the cold water bite, but so do the sharp rocks and, of course, the sharks. I will say that some of my best school papers were written to the sounds of seagulls, however. Not that my teachers appreciated the distinction. They had this funny idea that I should be in school. WTF? lol.
I'm only 5'6", too, (actually, 5'5 3/4", but I round up)but have the reverse problem. Freakishly long torso, short legs. I guess when I sit next to someone, I probably look like I have Toulouse-Lautrec syndrome!
I'm from northern California, myself, so actually swimming in the ocean is kind of a novelty for me Ooooh, yeah. I was in Northern California in June when everything was burning. 'Twas surprisingly cold. I was shocked to see people swimming in full body wetsuits in the channels in the bay in San Francisco. And little kids frollicking in bathing suits along the shore. Brrr.
I probably look like I have Toulouse-Lautrec syndrome! LOL. Love it.
Thanks! I thought the pics came out rather well myself. Strategically placed magazines (check), good lighting (check), etc.
I had to look up where you are to figure out how it's winter for you. Of course! Australia and New Zealand have reversed seasons to the Western Hemisphere. I've always wanted to visit. It looks like a beautiful country.
Sounds like a wonderful day. And I'm so glad you took pictures! Y'all look so happy and relaxed, and it warms my heart to know that somewhere, people are sitting on a beach. :)
Sitting at the beach, but fucking off from work. That part is key. The only reason I was able to come out is my boss is in Denver at the DNC with his grandson, and things are sloooow at work in his absence.
It was a lovely day though and a good time for some catching up with NK. The last time I saw her was right before I left for my roadtrip when I helped her move stuff around in her apartment in preparation for her window replacement. There was quite a bit to catch up about, not to mention chatting about fic with her. I'm very glad to see that our conversation resulted in some writing!
Glad you had a good day. Thanks! I wish there were more of them, but the summer days are dwindling down. I might have the opportunity to go out to Jones Beach this weekend with my buddies, but chances are looking slim. I'll take what I can get.
enjoyed reading about your wonderful day at the seaside - the photos are also very neat - wish I had the trade as well - have to get back and read all the individuals again.
found you at the Spuffy Realm - off to read your work now.
I'm not sure when you took a look at my journal last night, but it might have been going through some issues as I tried to change my LJ banner. Usually I have a sidebar with a list of links to all my fics by pairing to the right. That disappeared for a bit, but it's back now, which will make navigating my stories quite a bit easier. Just thought I should let you know. I was, uh, panicing, to put it wildly, lol.
And I'm glad you liked reading about my day at the beach. Herself is a peach and we always have a good time together when we hang out.
Browse all you like. Nearly all my entries are unflocked. :)
