Have you ever finished a novel and scratched your head in bewilderment? This happened to me recently with two books, Drowning Ruth by Christina Schwarz and The Regulators by Richard Bachman (pseudonym for author Stephen King.)
I haven't read either The Regulators or Desperation, but I love Stephen King, so happen to know from reading various articles that they were released at about the same time....each is supposed to represent a parallel universe & the characters appear in each, just in different circumstances. Maybe that helps somehow, ;]
I love him too! I just think he is fascinating -- the way his mind works. And he is married with children (...proof that he can't be entirely hermit-like)! I wonder if he is often approached by fans, or if they would shy away? It would be terrific to meet him at a book-signing sometime.
I read 'Drowning Ruth' and had much the same reaction as yours
Such a disappointment, I know! My reaction surprised me because I love her novel All is Vanity so, so, so, much! It is a fiction story about a woman who quits her job to write "the all-American novel" -- and is distracted time and time again! There are always bookshelves to rearrange, and living room walls to paint... ;-)
I would heartily recommend it, except I know that you already have a looming "To Be Read" pile. :-)
i did not like Drowning Ruth. i am a HUGE stephen king fan, and have read both of those books. i'm not sure if it matters which one you read first. i read Desperation first and liked it better than The Regulators. those are two of books that require a particular "leap of faith" - you have to kind of accept his logic and go with it.
Me neither! My reaction suprised me because I love Christina's second novel, All is Vanity very much. I would definitely recommend that one. :-)

I'm getting there! :-) I just find him fascinating. But I'm too much of a scaredy-cat to even attempt It or Cujo, or, or, or...
My favourite is The Green Mile (loved the movie too!), and so many of his other non-horror efforts: Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, The Body, The Running Man -- but I think I might be running out of non-horror options!
I still have to read Hearts in Atlantis and The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. But after that, I am at a crossroads.

His book On Writing is very inspirational.
