i hate to be the voice of dissent here - because i'm sorry that this is happening to you, and you're surrounded by so many close-minded individuals, but your college is religiously affiliated iirc, so i'm sort of not surprised that you're encountering this attitude.
Aww, that's not really dissent. And you're right - it shouldn't come as a surprise and it doesn't, really. I knew this was likely to happen when I had to enroll in this class. For the most part, Baker is pretty liberal, because it's Methodist, which is pretty chill, and it's in a liberal part of the state, and most the people who aren't just aren't in my classes. But I knew I'd be unlikely to be able to keep my mouth shut in this class.
I just hoped I'd make it a little longer...this was only my third time attending the class. :(
Just ask them their opinion on Catholics, if you get bored. Saints, etc. It's fun to listen to them get things wrong. ;)
How often do you have it? And do you guys have the wonky attendance requirements that we do? My history teacher is an anti-feminist, so I'm saving all of my absences for when we get to womens' suffrage, so I don't kill him.
Well, we're starting in ancient Rome and moving forward, so we're going to be talking about Catholics a lot. :P
I have it Tuesdays and Thursdays, and I'm not sure what the attendance policy is, actually. But class participation is like 15% of the grade. *shrug* I can only have five absences for my other class, so I have to be on campus anyway.
I approve of your plan. Not killing professors is a good idea.
