So, my job this summer was being a guide at a Visitor Information Centre. So basically, I gave out maps, pointed the way to Green Gables, pimped promoted different places on the Island to visitors (ie. tourists ( Read more... )

I would like to clarify a few answers:

-- I've no idea at all how Canadian translates into USD. But 17USD sounded pretty damn good to me!

-- I'd have to know more about the location of the Visitor Center to really judge the tackiness of a bikini-clad/shirtless person. So hotness is good for now :P

-- I do, actually, know who Anne is ;) But I don't think it's overhyped, nor do I adore it, and that was the most neutral option available. *g*

-- I think the Canadian dollar is around 90 cents US these days, so it'd probably be around 15USD for a day. You'd think that for all the amenities and facilities that the National Park offers people wouldn't mind paying the money. But that's probably the complaint I hear the most and the one people are the most snotty about. "Where can I go to a beach that's free? I don't want to pay money." There are about 300 other beaches on the island not in the park, go to one of those ( ... )

I'm also clarifying answers... ;-)

From my "Other" response for When I stop at a Visitor Information Centre I ask:... Um, usually where the closest restroom is!

I agree with sopdetly that the bikini top/shirtless answer is really dependent on the location of the Visitor Center... Middle of a city = tacky; close to the beach = acceptable...

:-)

Hee! I forgot that reason- yeah, alot of people ask that- where our restrooms are (although here in Canada we call them washrooms or toilets if you're Quebecoise). ;).

Yeah, I'm kind of two minds about the shirts on/off. We're less than ten minutes away from a beach so we have a number of shirtless visitors. I'm kind of shallow- I don't mind if they're young and hot, it's only when they're wrinkly and old that I don't want to see it, lol.

:)

*g* It is an important reason!

*giggles* It's really a good point about shirtless-ness -- there ought to be an age-restriction!

If I'm going somewhere I'll usually know a bit about it before I go and then see what I feel like doing. Sometimes I plan, but mostly I like to be flexible about the whole thing. If I feel like staying on the beach instead of going to X museum then I will.
But please do share your experiences. I'll bet you've had your fair share of strange people!

On an unrelated note - have you still got my sunandsmut fic? Don't worry if you've not had time - I don't mind, but just... being like an impatient tourist wondering.

It's nice to be flexible when you plan a trip- that way if the weather is bad/good or something comes up, you don't feel disappointed if you don't get to see everything or you discover something new that you would've missed otherwise. That's probably the best way to travel ( ... )

as a fellow tourist industry worker I would like to share a few things about the job that wasn't posted. We are both part of the PEI F.U.,and a trail at my work is commonly referred to as the GD trail. oh dear. and today I over heard a grow woman asking her son if he'd ever felt a real beaver (we have a beaver skin hanging on the wall) but it was still pretty hilarious
