Oh lordy-loo, so I am probably going to regret making this public, but enough people were encouraging of it that, okay, why the hell not

Way to totally undermine your own arguments about the positive nature of fanworks, no matter how subversive, and serve up material that, really, provides prime fodder for whatever bullshit theories the dudes are pursuing and makes us all look like assholes by association.
YYYYYYYY EXACTLY THANK YOU. I feel really frustrated by this because there was a lot of excellent discussion and smackings-down without resorting to this shit.
I was just kind of mildly embarrassed by the fic I read, mostly because lately I seem to have this bizarre kneejerk reaction to RPF where I am okay with it in theory but in practice I can't seem to do it, but the more I thought about it the more it was bothering me, and it took me awhile to put my finger on why.
Times like these I think that fic writers/ slashers can be just as entitled as the most infamous furry fandomers.
I'm trying to find some links that will sum things up well. Hmm. It doesn't help that some of the most egregious comments made by the dudes who set it off were later deleted (by the dudes themselves); there's a good summary here and you can see one of the dogpiles of one of the dudes here.
Thanks; I found some links through metafandom and is making a quick post warning about the questionaire. It def sounds iffy.
But... are people making art of the "scientist" invovled? As a way of humiliating (sp?) them? Is that what your second part in this post is about? Because that's... disgusting! Wtf?!
OH MY GOD THE COMPLETE LACK OF ANY SENSE OF BOUNDARIES. DDDDDDD: Basically as ishie said further up, I feel like it completely fucking undermines claims of the positive aspects of fannish sexual content, because it demonstrates that we are also totally happy to use sexual content as a weapon for humiliation and the exertion of power.
Yeah, seriously. I'm not one for the whole "behave, the real world is watching!" mentality, but this is something entirely different. This isn't people judging fandom for liking Snarry porn or something equally harmless. This is fandom deliberately using common-for-fandom but non-mainstream sexual expression to hurt someone.
Basically about the time the macro/gif spamming and comment-fic started, I sighed and said "Well, we're at the 'hoist the colors' stage, this would be the point where fandom starts gleefully chopping off its nose to spite its face."

And also sad.
...using my eyerolly!Comedian icon seems especially tasteless at a time like this, so I will use Buffy with a large bottle of tequila instead.
