They tell me that if you've got a certification to teach Science, that jobs SHOULD just fall into your lap. Uh...no, they don't. I've applied for four teaching positions in the last two months, and gotten no response. Two of the schools have removed the position from their websites, telling me they've probably filled them. I totally feel your frustration about not even landing interviews. It's tough.

Out here in Southern California they ended up laying off teachers because of the budget crisis. This scares me since I ended up leaving my tenured position and it will be harder to get a job. I also found--even though they deny this--age discrimination. One teacher at my last district asked if some of us would join in a suit to sue one certain district.

Hopefully the job situation is better where you are. Keep up with the subbing as I do know of teachers who ended up getting full time positions this way. My own mother-in-law did that.
