Day 3 - Elementary
I skipped a couple of days on this meme but I do have ideas for posts and maybe I can double up tomorrow.
For day 3 I want to talk about Elementary. We are 8 episodes into a 24 episode season (the show got an EXTRA pickup of two episodes!) and it has quickly moved towards the top of my current shows list. For this I would like to thank all the people who complained and wanked about Lucy Liu, about a female Watson, about it being an American adaptation, about it having the temerity to be another modern day tv adaptation since one is all we'll ever need, and whatever else people were using to pick it apart before it even aired. Without those people I may never have even noticed it was on! But instead I knew ALL ABOUT it and realized that an adaption with Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu - both of whom I think are pretty damn awesome - was probably going to be something I'd enjoy, and I was right! I'll be over here enjoying both shows. :)
A few things I love about Elementary:
• Miller as Sherlock - a bit rough, bitter, and broken. He's not all smooth and controlled though he is still the smartest and most observant man in the room. There are cracks in him and those make him interesting to me.
• Liu as Watson. She has cracks of her own but still manages to stay very on track in her job no matter the bullshit that Sherlock pulls. And her expressions are perfect. Sherlock seriously needs someone to look at him like he's an idiot.
• The partnership that John and Sherlock are developing. No, it's not love at first sight but I love that they are giving us an arc.
• Sherlock's relationship with Gregson. It's wonderful seeing Sherlock in a relationship with someone he actually admires.
• Joan learning how to see the world like Sherlock does. And realizing it's not all that great from a human relationships standpoint.
• Sherlock also knowing it's not all that great from a human relationships standpoint but also knowing that he can't shut it off.
