The Many Shirts, Ties, and Pocket Squares of Mr. Gold Part III - A Picspam

Aug 27, 2012 20:13

I've been planning on completing my picspams of Mr. Gold in a suit for season 1 and the day is finally here when planning has become reality. \o/ In this third part of the season he reuses a number of the ties and shirts we've seen already, though sometimes in new combinations, and pulls out several new items. There also times in these episodes where his pocket square is either missing or so small and black it might as well not be there! Shocking, I know. I will say in general his palette is more subdued (with a few splashes of color here and there) and he dresses like a man with much more on his mind than clothing. Previous parts: Part I and Part II.

Hat Trick

We have a lot of Gold in this part of the season so in most episodes we get at least two different shirt and tie combinations. Hat Trick is no exception - though with both he is wearing his overcoat which means no chance to see his suit pocket square.

The first is one of his deep red shirts (I'd say this is the one he last wore in Skin Deep) along with one of his favorite ties - the red and black checked one (which we first saw way back in The Heart is a Lonely Hunter). Unfortunately the lighting is rather horrible in this scene so I couldn't brighten things any more than this without washing things out.

For his second combo of the episode he has chosen a deep, blue shirt which I'm going to say is a new shirt and he has paired it with a black patterned tie which appears to be the one from the pilot. I would not be surprised if he burned the shirt but the tie survived. :) We also get a nice, long view of him in his overcoat holding his cane.

Stable Boy

From here on out he wears his overcoat less often which is excellent news for those of us who feel the need to study his wardrobe. Carefully. Or at least it's good news for me since I seem to be head of Gold Wardrobe Studies.

Three outfits this episode! First up, a new tie - a brighter red tie with deep, blue spots. He puts that with a plain, black shirt and, as far as I can tell, no pocket square. Maybe this is how you can tell if he's plotting too hard - less color and he forgets his pocket squares. Never make a deal with him if he's not wearing one. Actually, never make a deal with him anyway but even more when he can't be bothered to make himself all pretty. Though I must admit he still looks pretty here since I do love him all smug.

Another day, another lack of pocket squares. (Hmmm...maybe guilt for the whole Mary Margaret thing? Makes more sense than plotting because when isn't he plotting?) Even though pocket squares have been forgotten, he did take the time to pick out a new tie - a bright, smooth deep pink/purple tie. With it he wears a nice, striped shirt which we last saw in Fruit of a Poisonous Tree. (Yes, I'm looking back at the previous picspams - I don't remember every shirt off the top of my head.)

For his third combination of the episode, the pocket square is back! He is about to return Kathryn not much worse for wear and free Mary Margaret so no more need for guilt. At least about them. *g* This day he is sporting a lot of black and grey - a black/grey patterned tie (from Desperate Souls), the black shirt with the subtle dot pattern he has worn a few times (such as in the promo pictures), and a nice, grey pocket square.

The Return

The Return had LOTS of Mr. Gold being snarky and sad and thoughtful and pensive but took place only over two days so only two outfits. We will likely survive the lack.

For his first outfit, he wears it in four different scenes - he alternates between thoughtful and suspicious when August is around and lets the snark out with Regina. Which must have been a relief for him. *g* It is kind of amazing how much he looks like a shark in the Regina scene. As far as his clothing, he wears a shirt and tie combo he last wore in Dreamy but now we can see he has paired it with a purple pocket square. I also really love his gloves in the last scene. Yum.

For his second outfit, he is back to his red/black checked tie with a deep, red shirt. Perhaps this combination is comforting for him so he chooses it in times of stress. He hasn't forgotten his pocket square though - he has a shiny, black one to complete his look.

The Stranger

Mr. Gold has only one appearance in this episode (though two related scenes) so we only get one tie/shirt combination and it's exactly same one he wore through much of The Return! For shame. This is clearly only a day or two after his confrontation with August in the previous episode. I cannot believe the man would wear the same thing so soon. However, he does make up for it by laughing heartily at August. It's good he can find some amusement after August fooled him so thoroughly. (Now that I really blame August for trying. It was good effort!)

An Apple Red as Blood

Ah, finally an episode with a colorful pocket square! And, looking over his other colorful pocket squares, I'd say it's even a new one. \o/ He is also sporting a shiny and bright deep, purple shirt with a tie which doesn't look quite black but a deeper purple. This may be a whole new outfit for him. Perhaps some new clothing for his trip. He is looking quite fine and sleek here.

Oops. Maybe no trip for him! He has retreated to his deep, red shirt with a deeper red (or possibly black) tie and not any sort of pocket square. Awww, he needs a hug.

A Land Without Magic

Ah, but he bounces back since he knows his plan is finally coming to fruition! Regina's plan has backfired (seriously, woman - watch her eat the pastry) and things are moving along. My thought is that this is the same clothing he was wearing in the last episode (as in he has yet to change not that he wore it twice) but he pulled out a pretty and colorful pocket square to go with it while he waited for the Savior to show. He knows he has to sell the dragon fighting and he should look his best.

And for his last wardrobe choice of the season - he has picked his deep, blue shirt (seen at the beginning of this picspam), a deep, brown tie, and a silver pocket square. Just the thing to wear when your long, lost, and presumed dead girlfriend suddenly shows up in your shop. Or at least it worked for him. That's it until we get into season 2! Unless I do manage the Rumpel picspam before the end of September. It is possible.
