Erm, does anyone know how much it costs to run a website and how many hits you need to be financially viable? A website I work on exists, but is being dumped by its server.

It really depends on what sort of website. If it's just a standard text and pics type thing, you can get them ridiculously cheap... from about £2 a year. If you're hosting videos and stuff, however, you'll need to pay a lot more for the bandwidth, as people will be downloading things from it regularly. I think Rob pays about £60 a year for Mitch Benn's website, which has a lot of downloadable content.

£60 a year isn't much really, all things considered. It's a big website, though.

Nah, it's not that much. And you can get them cheaper too, depending on how much bandwidth you need. I'd say go for it.

The number of hits has nothing to do with it unless you are selling advertising to someone and Unique Visitors is a more reliable indicator
