Clean Up Assignment
We’ve got a problem with chizpurfle. This magical parasite has infested the owlery and the ferret pens. (It harbours in the owls’ feathers and in the fur of the jarveys, who’ve infiltrated our ferret community.) As you'll recall, Chizpurfle is relatively harmless, but it makes the host creatures miserable, so it would be a kindness to clean the little beggars out and send them packing. That’s more or less literally what you need to do: we want you to round them up, help them pack their kit, and get them situated in the special packing crates we’ve provided so we can ship them off to the Magical Creatures office in London. Be sure they’ve got their papers with them; it’s a nasty mess if they turn up at the Ministry without the proper documentation.
You’ve obviously got several jobs wrapped up in this assignment:
1. Explain to the owls, ferrets and jarveys what you’re up to. They should want to cooperate, but it might help if you’d give them a meal first.
2. Collect the chizpurfles and their gear together, count them, check their paperwork, and crate them.
3. Check carefully for any chizpurfles who might be hiding out, trying to avoid deportation. Warn them that you’re going to sanitise the owlery and pens once the crates have shipped and that anyone left behind will, unfortunately, not survive the fumigation. Be sure you make this really clear. Check again for hold outs.
4. Clean and Fumigate the owlery and pens. The owls should be encouraged to leave the owlery; the fumes will not hurt them, but it will annoy them, and in any case, it’s difficult to clean up owl droppings if they are up there dropping fresh bits down on your heads. The ferrets and jarveys should be moved to temporary pens outside the tower. They won’t be hurt by the fumes, either, but it’s impossible to clean their area with them still in there.
5. Bag the waste and debris.
6. Sort the jarveys from the ferrets and return the ferrets to the tower. The jarveys should be collared and tagged and brought to Professor Weasley for disciplinary action. The owls will return on their own when they realise you’ve finished freshening their space.
