If it's any consolation, I NEVER had a splinter removed at the doctor's office, and neither did any of my kids. Lighters, needles and tweezers, baby, all the way! If it was good enough for me, it's certainly good enough for MY kids, and it was. No one has complained to me about emotional trauma yet, and believe me, they would.

I sorta think your dad removing his own cyst is pretty cool, personally. I've taken out my own stitches before, with my doctor's blessing. Why go pay for something you can do yourself? :)

My Mom could remove a splinter with a needle and tweezers and it didn't bother me. My dad on the other hand...it was a bloody mess!

The removal of the cyst was pretty cool. The mood of the moment was very sad, but like I said, I thought I had the coolest Dad in the world when I saw that little piece of him in the jar...
