[open] safe in the dark

He isn't fully healed. Not entirely. His dreams are still fragmented, red and terrible. He still feels a little tug under his heart every time he thinks he sees the Dog out of the corner of his eye. He still can't forgive Curufin, not quite. He still can't face Findarato, still twitches when he hears the wolves outside, and the scars will never go ( Read more... )

He might hear a footstep beside him, then a voice asks, cheerily, "Care for an archery partner? I'm still getting the hang of mine and I could use the company."

And if he looks up, there's an especially cocky-looking Atan holding a rather weird-looking bow over his shoulder.

The dog next to Celegorm lifts his head and woofs at Jack in an amiable manner, and Celegorm turns, lowering his bow, and examines the Edain for a moment before noticing the bow and getting quite a bit more interested. "What is that?" he asks - given that his is a relatively simple longbow, your mechanism, Jack, is supremely interesting to a trained warrior. "That doesn't look like any bow I've seen. Not a crossbow, is it?"

"Sort of the offspring of a crossbow," he says, lowering the weapon from his shoulder. "It's called a compound bow: built this myself shortly after I got here and I'm still getting the hang of it."

Celegorm holds out a hand. "Can I look at it?" Despite the fact that it's a question, his curiosity makes him less shy, less careful, and it comes out just a little like a demand. (Okay, maybe more than a little. He was a prince in his day.)

Katniss is good with a bow, and sees the strange man practicing from a ways off. She decides against calling out a hello to him--too distracting, she figures--and walks quietly towards the figure, finally standing a safe distance away.

"You haven't hunted in some time, I'm guessing," she says gently, with a small smile.

Celegorm looks up not quite sharply at the unfamiliar Edain, then manages a slightly uncertain grimace/smile. "Not in a while," he says, "Not with a bow, anyway. Decided it was time I got back in practice."

He examines the bow, frowning. "This isn't a very good bow, though."

He's used to better.

Katniss nods. "I have one that's all right, though it's not with me right now. It's good to practice."

"Maybe I should make my own," he mutters. "Been a while since I tried that, though, probably wouldn't work very well. Damn." He shakes his head slightly, glances at her with his eyebrows slightly up. He thinks of Aredhel, back in Valinor. "Are you a hunter?"

Here's one insufferable Atan in the front yard, shooting some strange contraption at cans lied up. She may look up.

"Heeellllo?"

The gun actually definitely gets his attention, in kind of an annoyed way. It's interrupting his focus, and his dog is standing up and has his hackles lifted, eying Eda warily. With his hand resting on his head, the two of them almost look like one being, attached in some strange way.

"Who are you?"

It's not quite hostile. But probably borderline.

She stops her fire and looks at the Elf and his dog.

"Eda... and you?"

"Tyelkormo Turcafinwe," he says, somewhat tightly, expression tense and wary. "What is that?"

It's ugly. And loud.

Not like a weapon should be. :|

For some strange reason, the typist feels the need for Utena to meet an elf. She'll be outside in the snow, a pink-haired Atan moving and practicing her sword. Moving against the wind...

Moving against utter grief.

This one may not be the best to meet. Although he does understand grief. Oh god, does he. All the loss.

He pauses in his practice, breathing out, and notices the Edain practicing with a blade. She's not bad, either. He rocks back on his heels and just observes her moving through her forms, noting weaknesses with a warrior's automatic eye.

Typist had to post as her cause she derped and tagged as Utena. Utena stops for a moment and looks at the man. He's got pointy ears.

"Hello?"

He doesn't look terribly embarrassed to be caught watching. Perhaps just a little. "You swing a little too wide on the downstroke and leave your side open," he says, instead of actually responding directly. "It's an obvious vulnerability an enemy would take advantage of."

Admittedly, it's probably not by much, but this family defines perfectionism with the sword.

"Out of practice?" The twins grin at him as they come up on either side of their brother.

"Need any help?" It's part teasing, part offer, the twins always were quite avid hunters though truth be told they haven't been out as much recently as they used to either.

Celegorm does his best to scowl at them both, though it comes out looking awfully like a grin, how odd. "Oh, shut up," he says, "I'm trying to get back in practice. You come to me when you have twins keeping you busy."

"We are twins," one points out, grinning back because that is totally a grin, Tyelko, who are you trying to fool?

"And we keep each other busy. Does that count?" They laugh, but really though it's unlikely that these two will ever have children of their own. There's just not room for anyone else.

"We could try to help you, if you want."

Oh, nobody. Not really. Can't slide one by these twins. And his grin widens a little, becomes even more of one. One of those ridiculous, broad grins that was probably so common back in the day. "Don't I know it," he says, reaching out to ruffle one of their hair. "I can't wait until they're old enough to do that, honestly I can't. Right now they just keep me and Ireth busy."

He blinks, a little, and then shrugs. "--I could probably use it," he admits, a little ruefully.
