Report #012 - Video - Forward Dated to Thursday Morning.

Dec 28, 2011 22:34

[The camera comes to focus on Roxanne Ritchi's home office- in the distance, obscured, her cork board covered with papers and notes, photographs and lines, but the background is in soft focus, so none of it's legible. Roxanne herself -- cup of morning coffee, dressed and prepped for a day of work.]

[Conspicuously absent? Brainbots.]Good Morning, ( Read more... )

The end of a Mayan calendar. Just as the end of a month is not the end of all months, and the end of the year is not the end of all years, it is just one of a cycle, a baktun is another unit of time.

Well, you'd be our resident expert. I can't say I've followed the Mayan Calendar information very closely.

So the new Mayan Calendar starts at the close of the old? A "baktun"?

It is part of the Long Count Calendar. But yes, that is the essence - it is the start of a brand new baktun. A significant occurrence, but not a world-destroying one.

Strange how people can interpret things.

So a significant change, but nothing that's end-times level?

Well, that certainly seems worth looking into.

It'd be a heck of a catch for City Lights all things considered. I mean. Pink Floyd -- the person -- writing for City Lights? Though he may need a new working name. I'm not sure how that would all work out.

[Forwarding Pink's contact info now.]

Not sure about his focus or seriousness there, but -- I thought you'd want a heads up. We spoke about it at the Iceberg, but with the holidays-- [And her personal life going on it's ear] -- I hadn't really had the wherewithal to touch bases.

Your enjoy your holidays?

Hey, even if wants to throw an article or two at me every once in awhile, I'd take 'em. And thanks.

( a brief pause, and a shrug. )

They were... nice. Quiet. How about you?

The opposite. Boyfriend--arguably ex-boyfriend?--appeared. Had a nice fight on Christmas. Am now more in relationship limbo than ever.

Saw Andromeda, though, and got together with her on Boxing Day.

Mmm. Well, I haven't had much time to give any thought to it here... But I think this year will be about making a new start of things. Living my life just to live and making the most of it.

...I'd say I'll give up one of my vices, but aside from running out of money, it seems unlikely.
[He laughs and shrugs, holding up his martini for the camera before taking a sip.]

[She smirks.]

The only vice I could give up his my coffee. Got to be worse when there were two of us drinking it regularly-- here it's tapered off to a more manageable level.

Mmm. I have several depending on your definition thereof.

[He laughs, smiling wickedly.]

But I've just been noticing what an issue people seem to have taken up with smoking these days. Can hardly do it anywhere.

Nobody likes cancer, so -- cigarettes are no longer as acceptable as they once were.

[Okay, a private vacation was a private time, that made sense. She said she'd be back Monday, and he didn't hear from her then. Settling back in takes a few days, sure. But then a whole freaking week had passed, and Hal had gotten the picture. Roxanne still saw him as the geeky cameraman to maybe-sorta make plans with, and then bail, time and time again. Whatever. It was nothing new. He stopped looking for a message from her, and found other ways of occupying his time. Can you say 100% completion rate on a few games he got illegally for free?]

[After a few days, Hal wants whatever interaction he can get deigns to check the feed for anything new. Surprisingly, there is actually a private message from Roxanne. She's contacting him first, and it's not about chasing down a story? This is new.]

[He sweeps his hair back a little, opts to stay in casual clothes for now, and angles his device's camera so it's away from the latest take-out boxes.]Oh, sure, yeah, whenever works for you. Some time tomorrow, or next week, or maybe now? I'm not ( ... )

[...yeah okay this is harder then she thought. Still, she maintains her on screen cool. It doesn't hurt that he's somewhere at the MAC, and she's not.]

Well I'll be headed into the office in a little bit. There's a place nearby. Meet you for coffee? I need to talk to you about a few things from home.

[It's not remote. She's counting on his cowardice to keep him from being too big of a freak in public... where there are LOTS of people.]

[Trying not to slip, or imply that he's at all annoyed about being left in silence for a week and more, is harder than he thought. But he's pretty sure he's covering that fairly well; after all, she actually invited him to coffee this time! Progress, and without him hinting the idea, or even revealing his new identity!]

A coffee place near where you live? Wow, yeah, that sounds like a great idea.

[He is bubbling with newfound confidence thanks to his powers. Thank goodness If only there weren't so many people with powers in the City, he'd be much happier about doing what he wanted wherever he wanted.]

[Try not to squirm in your chair, Roxanne. It's just the guy who nearly killed you trying to find out where you live. That's all. You know, no worries.]

Near where I work.

[Oh look the address to said shop is forwarded.]
