Good luck with your paper!

What are five fics you wish existed? (any fandom!)

Those all sound awesome, ngl. *sigh* Fandom has complete;y spoiled me in that there are SO MANY amazing things and I can still always think of more that I just WANT.

ALSO ALSO. I DREAMED THIS UP LAST NIGHT, OR I WOULD HAVE INCLUDED IT

A CWRPfS AU inspired by I Was Kidnapped by Lesbians From Outspace and the pulp genre that, in turn, inspired it. (feat. Chad Michael Murray as the over-the-top misogynistic villain because the casting is just that easy)

Seconded so hard. I clearly need to start buying authors at auction and to start making pleading posts on my birthday.

HEE! OMG, that looks amazingly hilarious. AND AWESOME, CLEARLY.

Actually, I signed up for Ladies BigBang (though God knows why because I've already dropped out of Supernatural/J2 Big Bang) and lately I've been leaning towards writing some kind of ridiculous CWRPfemslash AU. Probably starring Katie Cassidy. Completely self-indulgent ridiculousness! XD

I wonder if I'd have to get permission to gank the concept. Webcomics are sort of that grey space between fanworks and professional work, only maybe not at all? Bah.

It's not self-indulgent when you'll have fans! I promise to love on it :D Will you share more details, or is it all meant to be a surprise?

I'm not sure. Maybe it depends how closely you're following it? The basic premise of lesbian space pirates kidnap woman - cue LESBIAN SPACE ADVENTURES! seems straight out of pulp sci-fi novels anyway.

Heh. Thank you! But no surprise; I honestly haven't figured it out yet! It was maybe going to be Katie needs a fake girlfriend for some ridiculous made-up reason (because I love the pretend-to-be-a-couple cliche to death). Or possibly Katie is a superhero who rescues people left, right, and centre, but can't get her love life together. Or possibly both! IDK.

Katie's superhero name should totally be "The Blonde Bombshell" with explosions of some kind as her signature move.

Pretend-to-be-a-couple is delightful! There's the family/friend/ex's wedding, the work do, so many good choices :P

Ahaha! The Blonde Bombshell! I love it.

I do feel kind of weird about the whole thing, though, because CWRPfemslash so often involves pairing up women who were never actually on screen together. :/

Harder too to claim the writing-an-archetype defense when we don't really see enough of the actresses to build or find sufficiently differentiated ones.

I wonder if it also feels more uncomfortable because it's less normalized? I mean, I don't think we've seen Misha Collins or Michael Rosenbaum onscreen together.

I wonder if it also feels more uncomfortable because it's less normalized? That's a really, really good point! (Although I certainly found it a bit weird writing Mike/Misha too, what with not having a history between them. Which ... was probably why I wrote that story AU. Which totally validates your point.) When I made that comment I was thinking about whether I should be watching Melrose Place (which I have no real interest in) in order to slash her with someone. Which is clearly a hypocritical way of thinking!

Overall, it's definitely a case of there being too few shows where women get to actually interact with one another. :(

OKAY. So maybe Genevieve is Katie's best friend Jared's roommate and Katie has a gigantic crush on her but keeps making a fool of herself in front of her. But Gen is secretly a superhero too! And they team up and flirt and fight crime and rescue cute boys and angst about revealing their secret identities to one another. AND EVENTUALLY THERE IS MAKING OUT.

I'm glad you've been convinced to write <3 THAT SUMMARY SOUNDS AMAZING. They're going to be so adorable as they wibble and angst. And making out is always awesome \o/

I finished with Buffy Season 7 a few days ago and I'm forever picking at Gilmore Girls clips on YouTube. The only other show that I can think of that consistently passes the Blechdel Test (not that it's a be-all-end-all) is The Sarah Jane Adventures. Which is lovely and you should be watching it.

Heh, I like that what you got out of that rambling was a fic summary. \o/

I do like Buffy! I was only a sporadic GG watcher, though you're right that that was an excellent show for female interaction! I'll have to check out Sarah Jane Adventures.

For my part, I've recently been watching Caprica which, while it hasn't fully captured my interest, has several woman-to-woman relationships that have interesting dynamics.

Sounded like a summary to me! This is too awesome not to exist, Scintilla.

SJA can be a bit tricky to track down - it's a kids show coming out of the UK - but so delightful. If you don't like the pilot, push on; it may actually be the weakest episode.

I said I'd go back to Caprica when the season had aired, but I'm so lukewarm on the whole idea. Is it worth it, or am I not missing much?

Aw, thanks for being an awesome cheerleader! <333

Thanks, that's good to know! I've heard about SJA, of course, because I quite like new!Who (though I'm not particularly fannish about it). :)

I realize now that my comment above on Caprica sounded incredibly lukewarm! Honestly, I don't know quite how I feel about it as a whole yet; it certainly didn't grab me at the first episode the way BSG did. Parts of it I LOVE to pieces -- the girl who plays Zoe is absolutely amazing and her BFF-ship with another girl and her fraught relationship with her father are two of the highlights of the show. Some of the rest of it drags for me, but it's gorgeously shot (oh hi, Vancouver locations!) with a really beautiful aesthetic and the actors totally sell everything.

I guess if you're going into it expecting BSG, it's not it. Of course. But it deals with a lot of the same themes and issues, and even if it hasn't quite found its footing yet, I'm still with it.

I hope you do try it. Seriously underrated show. (I was at Who Party last year and the SJA panel was so poorly attended that the discussion moderator didn't even show!)

I suppose I am letting Caprica suffer from a bit of Battlestar comparison, which is Very Bad of me. I like the mini/pilot well enough, it just felt like it was treading a very fine line between awesome and overwrought. Maybe I will give it a try, giving it its first-season-shaky-legs credit. It's actually a real appeal to know there are some strong female relationships.

Swear to god, I've said it before and I'll say it again, but as a science fiction fan and an actor, I'm in the wrong city. (I'll stop sulking about this one of these days, I swear!)
