From the second they showed her in the opening credits I was like, WTF, her? Why? What's going on!???!?!?!
I totally buy that Dean would have fantasies of living the normal life with his hot yoga instructor mother-of-his-child (we know it's his, I mean really), but what? She's never dated? She's available? WHAT? And then! Going to go make a deal with Heaven? BECAUSE YEAH THAT'S WORKED OUT SO WELL IN THE PAST.
I can't even enjoy drunk!Cas because I am TRAUMATIZED by Dean WALKING OUT ON SAM. Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo...you fuckwad, haven't you learned ANYTHING?
I thought the same thing when I saw her in the credits. FUCKING WHY? WHY NOW? And Dean, honestly, WAY TO WALK OUT ON SAM AND CAS. I get it, he's pissed and has had enough, but...
Next week, uh, was that Cas PUNCHING Dean? WAS IT?
Dean's last stop was the ONLY thing about this ep that made me happy. (Validating my own personal canon as it does.) Otherwise, well, I was raised Lutheran, so *that* got a smirk out of me, and "I drank it." earned a chuckle.
Dean seems to forget that promise he made early last year---yes, he IS. I'm surprised no one's brought it up before this.
I actually think they would be a good couple, I liked her character a lot. I'm just objecting to the "out of the blue" aspect of it; while I can get that he never mentions her to Sam or anyone, as a VIEWER of the show I think there should have been some prior hinting at least. I totally get the vibe that the producers needed Dean to confess his plan to someone who wasn't Sam or Cas or Bobby or....well, there really isn't anyone left alive but her, is there? So the writers had to pull someone out of their hat and there she is. :( I'm also not buying that all these years later, she just happens to be single and hanging out, waiting for Dean, her one true love - whom she shared, what, a long weekend with? - to show up. Character development fail there
( ... )
But while waiting for 99 to air, I had to watch the spoiler/clip for 100, the Cas beating the shit out of Dean. Hard Dark alley, holding Dean up against the brick wall, my idea of heaven. Gotta go watch now. :)
Yep, I'm with you, what the everloving fuck?? This show is really pissing me off with endings! It's like, I'll love the episode right until the end, and that's been practically this whole season. I mean, Lisa, really? So for Dean to be happy, it has to be with a woman and kid he had sex with for two days and then saw again in one episode in season three? Really? We can't be original, happiness is only had through bullshit? Why do I get the feeling that the show will end somehow with both boys getting married and having kids and only seeing EACH OTHER at Christmas?
UGH, I know! The endings leave me hitting my head with my own hand repeatedly while shouting at the tv. I mean, I get that he thinks he loved Lisa, and maybe he did, and yeah, I think Ben is likely his kid, but it really did seem tacked on and like it came out of nowhere.
but it really did seem tacked on and like it came out of nowhere.
That's my whole gripe about it. If Dean had in some way been pining for that kind of life, for HER, I think it should have been built up a bit more, even if it was just him looking longingly at families having picnics, or maybe an illicit picture he took of Ben, OR SOMETHING. Worse, I think this is the last we'll see of her.
It could have been a great plot element, tbh, but this is as you say, tacked on. I do wonder if this is left over from when they were planning on ending it all at the end of this season, giving Dean a ready-made family as reward? Which would have been really beautiful. But as it is? Cheap. *frowns*
