Lying in bed next to the perky blonde is the best feeling in the world to her. Knowing that when she wakes up in the morning that those ocean blue eyes are the first thing she will see calms her beyond her own belief. She thinks back on all the good things being with this woman has brought her. Happiness. Laughter. Contentment. An unwavering, unconditional, and indescribable love. Everything.
As she lies there watching her love sleep and basking in the simplicity of it, she is stirred from her thoughts by the soft sounds of crying from the baby monitor sitting on their bedside. Shifting slowly, not to wake her sleeping beauty she quietly makes her way into the next room.
What she sees nearly takes her breath away, like it does every time she looks at the tiny baby, who is a miniature version of the most beautiful woman she’s ever seen. She pauses for a second to admire the beauty of the baby and her heart swells with love she never knew she could feel until now. As the crying increases she quickly and gently lifts her little angel out of the crib before she has a chance to wake her other angel sleeping in the next room.
“What’s the matter, sweetie? Momma’s here. Shh…” she gently tries to calm the crying baby.
At the sound of her Momma’s voice, the little baby begins to calm; realizing this Callie begins to hum softly trying to lull the baby back to sleep. Noticing it’s going to take more than humming, she shuffles through her mind for a song. Looking in the eyes of her sweet, sweet child, she smiles and begins slowly.
She's got a smile that it seems to me
Reminds me of childhood memories
Where everything
Was as fresh as the bright blue sky
Now and then when I see her face
She takes me away to that special place
And if I'd stare too long
I'd probably break down and cry
As she softly sings to the child in her arms, she can’t help but think back on the memories that brought her here.
*** flashback****************
It had been a long and tiring day for the young Calliope Torres, and it was only lunch. It was the first day of 9th grade; which meant the first day of high school. As if that wasn’t scary enough, her best friend had moved away over the summer so she was facing the terrors of high school alone. As she struggled to fit all of her books her locker she noticed a head of blonde hair next to her. As she turned to see who it was she saw what she could only describe as beautiful.
‘Hi! I’m Arizona. I’m new here. And it looks like we’re locker neighbors. I was wondering if maybe you could show me to the cafeteria? I’m still trying to learn my way around.”
“Dimples,” was the only word Callie could come up with, it was as if the dimples had short-circuited her brain.
“Huh?” Arizona looked at her a little confused.
“Ah…. it’s Simple!” Callie quickly snapped out of her dimple induced trance, “I was actually heading there myself, we can go together if you want?”
“Super!” Arizona smiled brightly, having noticed Callie’s slip up.
As they walked down the hall together only one thing was going through Callie’s mind, dimples.

Callie couldn’t help but smile, remembering the day she met the girl who would change her world forever. The girl who would become her world.
Sweet child o' mine
Sweet love of mine
She's got eyes of the bluest skies
As if they thought of rain
I hate to look into those eyes
And see an ounce of pain
Her hair reminds me of a warm safe place
Where as a child I'd hide
And pray for the thunder
And the rain
To quietly pass me by
****flashback*******************
2006
Callie was sitting in the Robbins family room with the entire Robbins family, everyone except for one. They had just come from Dakota’s funeral. Arizona was sitting next to her clenching her hand tightly afraid that if she let go, she might lose Callie too. Suddenly it all became too much, and she quickly left the room with worried eyes following her.
Callie shared a sympathetic look with Arizona’s mom and Dad.
“Go, dear. She needs you more than any of us, right now,” Arizona’s mom assured Callie.
As Callie quietly ascended the stairs of the Robbin’s home, she knew where she would find her girlfriend. She stood in the doorway watching as Arizona lay in the childhood bedroom of her brother, staring at the ceiling. Knowing that Arizona needed a minute to just be with her brother and his memory, Callie waited. But when she saw a single tear slowly make its way down her girlfriend’s cheek, she quickly made her way over to the bed and took her in her arms.
As she looked into her girlfriend’s painful blue eyes, she couldn’t help but think how beautiful she was even in the moment. And that for as long as she lived, she never wanted to see this amount of hurt and pain in her lover’s eyes again. It broke Callie to the see the girl like this, knowing that there was nothing she could do to take the pain away. Instead she did what she always does, she led with her heart.
“Ari, baby. I know it hurts, and that you miss him. And I hate having to see you hurt this much and knowing that there is nothing I can do to make it better. I love you so much, and I promise I will do everything in my power to never let you hurt like this again for the rest of our lives, if you’ll let me?” Callie finished a little unsurely.
Arizona slowly lifted her head to search Callie’s eyes, “Are you asking me for forever?”
Looking into Arizona’s eyes seeing a mixture of insecurity and pain, but mostly hope and excitement, Callie confidently responded, “Yeah, I’m asking you for forever. Marry me and let me love and protect you for forever.”
Tears once again fell from Arizona’s sky blue eyes, but this time they were of pure joy and happiness as she slowly nodded her head and was rewarded with a kiss full of promises and forever.

Sweet child o' mine
Sweet love of mine
Callie slowly hums the end of the song to her baby girl as she fondly recalls the day she asked Arizona to marry her. She remembers how hopeless she felt at seeing the pain in Arizona’s eyes and she remembers the feeling she felt at being able to make Arizona smile even with all the pain. She remembers all the times since then that she has done everything she could to keep her promise to Arizona. And she remembers the day they both promised forever to each other, and then again to the little girl in her arms.
From the doorway, Arizona stands with a gentle smile watching the love of her life gently rocking their sweet child and remembering the same promises of forever
