I've tried making pastry once. But in the good news, they're almost done rebuilding the house!

LOL - i have hurled pastry across the room, and an attempt at Chelsea Buns took a nasty turn when i lost my patience and started at it with a sharp knife - there are still gouges in the kitchen table.

Behold - I have uploaded pie-pic

you are a tease, sir ... a big tease, what with all this talk of pies and how scrummy they look and smell...

however, flaky pastry from scratch??? you're becoming a kitchen god ....

The pie was delicious, rich, tasty and creamy. Served with mixed steamed veg, and some of my dads beetroot chutney to cut through the richness.

Pic is above.

Flaky pastry was easier, though more time consuming, than short crust.

Just another string to my bow, i want to know how to do it all properly - next stop. Cheese straws, and proper puff pastry.

Please do post pictures! And the recipe, if you can/want to share your baking secrets?

It sounds delicious.

I'm gonna go home and make 'shroom and spinach pie. (or as you'd say, quiche, bc it's got cheese in it ;)

And you got the phonetics right too!

Pic has been took, and added to the post. Pie was delish.

Paj - everything for you swedes is paj, even if it's quiche, or flan, or something. Rabarbpaj med vispgrädde.

Years ago, I overheard to ladies in a department store cafe:

Woman 1: Quiche Lorraine? Quiche Lorraine! Whatever's that when it's at home?

Woman 2: Bacon and egg pie. Just a fancy name for a flan.

Woman 1: That's all right then, we'll have some of that. Thought it was foreign muck.

I admit I cheated and looked it up. But I remember the Hairy Bikers saying it on their show and thus, voila.

Pic is beau-tiii-foool. It looks like something out of a cookbook! I tried making an apple pie like that once and it utterly failed, the shell was quite hard.

haha, indeed. Sounds like my uncle.

Me: I'll make kebobs. Everyone eats kebobs.
Mum: Not your uncle. He doesn't eat kebob.
Me: But we already decided!
Mum: I know. So when he asks you what it is, it's lamb skewers.
Me: O.o ...
