Overall a good episode. I considered Bobby's situation and decided that Crowley must have said Bobby was for his personal torture use, so the worst the other demons dared do was "tease" him with Sam & Dean as Crowley has been too busy for any rec time.

Personally I think Sam & Dean will be doing a few millenia of laps when John finds out they left the prophet on Garth's house boat when they had a far superior safe house at mol hq.

Also towards my "killing characters is additive behaviour" theory - why did the cool roque reaper have to die? I could have seen him as a recurring character.

I have thought that the writer's deliberately leave "blanks" because we like filling them in but there is such a thing as too many blanks. I would have liked an explanation as to why/how Sam found Bobby so easily.

I think your theory about Crowley reserving Bobby has merit. Bobby was acting weird too. Maybe Crowley's got some game going on and is using Bobby as a conduit into Heaven?

Remember your "they aren't dead, if there isn't a body" speech from last week. I'm going with that for Mama Tran.

This is the episode that sliced and diced canon for me. All of season 7 Crowley is trying to find a way into Purgatory and all he had to do was push a ROCK out of the way? Really? Death, Mr. the natural order must be maintained has rouge Reapers hijacking souls for Crowley? And why isn't Mama Tran taking care of her boy? And why AREN'T they in the MOL bunker? And after Naomi's little visit Dean doesn't call Kevin and tell him to put up some angel wards, just in case? Now to be fair Crowley could have Kevin, Naomi could have Kevin or Kevin could be hallucinating Crowley breaking in, but really Dean should take care of Kevin, he's the only prophet they have.

For an important episode, I had real issues with the writing. But that's just me, maybe.

There was a bit of a plot/character/"how things work" salad in this episode yeah. This particular writing duo is rather notorious that and other ways.

I do like that I don't know what's really going on with Kevin right now, much as the boys are idiots for not securing him better.

1. Yep, I know about those, lsketch42 managed to make me like "The Chicken Dance" with those two vids years ago, and I'm sure there's a more traditional expanded text version or two here and there in the fandom. Hugging wasn't on the video versions though. Not a common occurrence back then, but a few Apocalypses will make people more inclined to appreciate hugs.
2. Handwaving happens. Especially with them.
3. Right from the start back in 2005 I have been stunned by the amount of non-verbal communication Jensen Ackles can do with his face.

-"This whole thing sucks, but you suck it up, and you push through, 'cause that's what we do." Anyone else hearing a bit of John in there? Just a smidgen? Patented Winchester family pep talk. Suck it up and deal because no one else will.

Yup. It makes me a feel a bit sad. Dean says it because HE BELIEVES IT. It's what he does on a daily basis. That... makes me sad for Dean.

-Dean has this face you guys. It does all these things. I can't even with this guy's face. Yeah. It's what makes the unbelievable request totally believable. Because of the expression, the eyes, the... *gah!!* You see how much it kills him to ask for what he's asking, and yet you find yourself wanting to give him what he's asking for ( ... )

To be fair, that's what his experience has been most of his life too. Not many people were helping John and the boys back when they were kids, or the boys would have been more connected with the hunter community and not surprised by the Roadhouse in Season 2. If no one's there to get help from, the only option other than giving up is pushing through. Doesn't make it less sad though.
