The original version of "Cruisin'" (you know, the empty orchestra duet number from Nam) by Smoky Robinson was on the radio just before. Hadn't heard it before, and I think I prefer the remake, as much I as sometimes abhor Gwyneth Paltrow ( Read more... )

although, I guess if I were truly "feminist", I'd be pro-choice? Oh, whatever...

ugh no!! Feminism:

1. Belief in the social, political, and economic equality of the sexes.
2. The movement organized around this belief.

sure the movement will have points such as abortion where the majority feel one way or the other, however there are many pro-life feminists. And not just religious ones. There's also a sizeable group who are pro-life but do not believe that abortion should be illegal....

I get really angry when I see certain feminist groups start bitching about pro-lifers being 'totally anti-women' when being pro-life comes in as many different 'shades' or 'flavours' as being pro-choice does!!

Feminism: 1. Belief in the social, political, and economic equality of the sexes.

I totally believe in this. I just find it hard being Christian and holding several feminist ideals, when a lot of Christians see the faith and feminism as being opposing binary structures.
There are some Christians, for example, who believe that women are not allowed to serve as pastors in a church- they believe it is the man's role to be the leader, and the woman's to be the helper and supporter. I say, no, women can be pastors because it blatantly states in the Bible that "in Christ, there is no male or female" (Galatians 3:28), and if the sexes are equal in Christ, then why should there be restrictions when it comes to teaching about His love in a church? That is what the other poem I mentioned is about.

Do you want to see my poem about abortion? Also, what is your stance in regards to the practice?

Jesus was a feminist. Duh. This was a guy who was friends with women when women werent allowed to talk to any man outside their own family. Jewish men used to pray thanking God that they weren't women....

Preach it!!! Although, I do actually have friends who argue against that, cos "all his apostles were men." *rolls eyes* He still had one heck of a lot of female followers though...
Check out John 8, if you haven't already. There's the coolest story about how He saves a woman from being stoned to death. Love it.

Nope, don't let that bother you. You can be both pro-woman and anti-abortion. Feminism is belief in the following three principles:

1) Women are culturally disadvantaged in comparison to men.
2) There is something wrong with that.
3) It can be changed.

Hehe, my only problem is with Tom Cruise getting married at all - he's utterly insane and immature, and just sounds off in interviews like there's no tomorrow. He's just... eh, such a stupid goof.

As for the abortion thing, a really good film that sort of does it from all perspectives is Vera Drake, directed by Mike Leigh. It's about an abortionist in fifties England who is arrested, and this arrest leads her family to find out what she does. The acting is simply amazing. Imelda Staunton plays the main character.

Hehe! Yeah, it would seem, to me, that him and Katie are still very much in the proverbial "Honeymoon" phase. I was reading a magazine on break at work yesterday, and some people were quoted as saying that Tom and Katie out of all the Hollywood couples are "the most in love". Course they are, everyone's "the most in love" when they first meet! And then there's Katie's "no sex before marriage" stance...which makes me suspicious of Tom's insistence to speed things up! But oh well, maybe they truly are very happy together, so more power to them.

I think I've heard of the movie you mentioned. I'll check it out, it sounds wonderful.
