I had my eyes tested last week and unsurprisingly I was told I need glasses. I've thought there was something wrong for a while but I've been reluctant to have my eyes tested simply because I didn't want to be told I need glasses. The Roar game a couple of weeks ago was too much though - the combination of my vision being slightly fuzzy at a ( Read more... )

soon you won't even notice the feeling of your glasses on your face.

ever thought of getting contacts? i got them because i hate having blurred vision when i'm wearing glasses and it rains, and they're comfy :)

i'm sure you'll get used to, and soon liking your glasses :)

Contacts are pretty expensive though, aren't they? They'd also probably be pretty useless for most of spring as I would imagine contacts and hayfever are a bad combination....

I'm sure I'll get over it too, eventually. And at least I don't have to wear them all the time.

I've needed glasses since I was 11 - I'm VERY shortsighted. Yes, they suck. Count yourself lucky that you can function at least marginally well without them. If you've got the money, it'd be worth looking at contacts. They're about $250 for 6 months, but they don't fall off, or fogged up or blotted over by rain, or leave little red marks on the sides of your nose. I've been wearing them for five years now (my eyes aren't suited to laser correction) and the only time I wear glasses now is on international flights, or when I've got a lousy cold and putting the contacts in is too icky...

My mum is pretty similar - has had glasses since early high school and can't function without them. The only time she takes hers off is to play netball. She's adapted well there - she's an 80% shooter with them off, but when she puts them on she's woeful.

I probably do have the money for contacts, but for something that I'm only going to wear for things like concerts and football games and driving at night I'm not sure it's worth it. If I had to wear them all the time I would definitely consider it.

Why can't you wear contacts on international flights?

I personally found my contacts very uncomfortable. But I have astigmatism and they may not have fit over my corneas very well; thus making it uncomfortable.

I used to wear glasses while playing netball, but they got fogger up when I started sweating. I can hardly see the ball with my naked eyes. I was a pretty passable footballer at school - it makes me bloody cry when I think how much better I could have been if I'd been able to see the ball when it was further than three feet away from my face...

Contacts on international flights are a bit of a no-no because the air con strips all the moisture out of the air, and over the 15 hours or whatever your contacts will dry out. Not only does that mean you probably won't be able to re-use them for the rest of the month (and they're not cheap), but they'll be dry and scratchy untill you get rid of them and let your eyeballs breathe for a few hours.

At least I won't keep mine in a sock. :-P And I promise that I will never do a Harry Potter and pick them up by the lens!
