At the Admiral Nelson by is in the zine Second Variation on the Theme of Band D from Keynote Press, and is on the ProsLib dvd too. It's by Georgina Kirrin, who I like as a Pros writer, but as I started reading this I realised that I've had this zine for years, but must never have picked it up to read properly!

I think it would have made far more sense to me when I started to read if the zine had called it "early lads" rather than AU, because I was looking for the AU-ness of it then...!

I think some writers feel if they're "making it up", it's AU. Since we have no idea what went on, of course, canon wise. I would have probably tagged it differently. I don't tag my older lads as AU on AO3. :)

That's a bit silly - we're all making it up! *g*

Older lads definitely aren't an alternative universe - they're a possible universe, but again, so is everything fanfic. Alternative universe isn't the show being alternative, it's the universe being alternative... It's like they say on that gameshow - say what you see, only in this case - read what you read!
