Torchwood: Apparently Unpopular Opinions

Mar 19, 2008 18:22

Because I'm currently stuck at school (I have two finals today -- I've done one and must now wait around until the other one starts), I can't watch Torchwood. This doesn't, however, mean that I can't talk about it!

Also!

I am so right with you on number three. Seriously, that's the part in canon that just makes me tear my hair out. Then again, I really am liking Ianto for the snark and backbone and personality and such he is displaying of late, so I also forgive them. But I would still like an explanation, o ye powers that be!

I have many many many issues with fandom Jack/Ianto, but that is neither here nor there.

Also! I agree with all three numbers really. I find your ideas intriguing and would like to subscribe to your newsletter, etc. :)

I like Jack/Ianto in pretty much everything after "They Keep Killing Suzie" but the emotional continuity in the stopwatch scene breaks my brain. It does not follow well from what had been happening previously.

(it's nice to meet you, btw!)

That's not unpopular in this corner of fandom, that's for sure. :-)

Hah. Yeah, there are a few of us who eye the weirdness that comprises much of TW fandom dubiously at best.

The show is so much better/saner/more mature than the majority of the fandom! This makes it the reverse of many other TV shows.

I ship everyone/everyone on TW. Also, I ship Jack/everyone in the universe.

I do too.

I enjoy thinking about how he'd flirt with characters in my other fandoms. It amuses me endlessly.

*nods*

Jack is one character that's infinitely crossover-able.

1. YES!!!!!

2. YES!!!!!

3. YE...ah kinda. I actually view the beginning of their relationship as a bit of a stockholm type syndrom, though not really, because Jack helped him work through the anger and pain of losing Lisa (which Jack has been one of the major actors in causing). I was caught by surprise though, but after analyzing it, it works for me.

For me, the jarring moment is the stopwatch scene. I feel so blindsided! In GBG, Ianto has rats gnawing at his belly and is constantly thinking of Lisa in a very emotionally-broken way. And then comes TKKS and the stopwatch scene. My mind, she breaks.

3. Yes! I just rewatched "Everything Changes"

Jack: And he looks really good in a suit.
Ianto: Now sir, that's sexual harrassment

HAHA THAT EXCHANGE WAS AWESOME. *is shallow*

In promo stuff Ianto was set up as a love interest as well. It was always in the planning, but I do think the series one was really damn jarring in the development. I adore them a lot in series two - I have nit picks here and there but I'm glad to see that they're learning from their mistakes.

1) I watched Torchwood out of order, but I really was drawn to Gwen right away. She's just really tough, feisty, caring and flawed. And I adore the gap in her teeth. It's charming. I was initially wary of Gwen being the heart, but the show made it work for me. Because they still allowed her to be a person. She's the connection to humanity but that doesn't mean she's always the moral center, which the case often is. I find this interesting.

She is so fab! This pair of shows does quite a good job creating women who feel real and like good people without them always being right.

2) THANK YOU. Related: he's not monogamous. He can and does have deep feelings for both Gwen and Ianto. Having feelings for Gwen doesn't invalidate what he feels for Ianto or vice versa. DID ANYONE WATCH DOCTOR WHO WHERE JACK FELL IN LOVE WITH BOTH THE DOCTOR AND ROSE?

Indeed! I'm baffled when people think that Jack going on a date with Ianto = entering a monogamous relationship. This is Jack! He flirts with robots!

3) This I don't agree with 100%. I think ( ... )
