Old School CSI and Other Stuff

Now that it's hockey season CSI gets bumped in favor of Caps' games. Thursday night I kind of wish I'd watched CSI over the Caps because they choked against Boston. Luckily, they found their game last night against Atlanta.

Glad to hear Tucker is better!!

I agree, the Nick/Sara scenes were definitely old-school and good to see again. It was like...two or three seasons ago. Except they're giving Brass the worst lines.

It was the first time in eleven seasons that Sara laughed out loud...

Seriously! It's like they neutered him.

I was watching a couple of episodes from the first half of last season and his lines and delivery were good and snarky - very Brass-like. Starting with the second half of last season and continuing into this season it's like they forgot how to write for the character. I'd love to know what PG did to piss them off.

I can't remember--have you seen Dealers? I think he has hair in that one.

Yup, I've seen Dealers. He had a lot of hair at one time. He had hair in CSI up until around S10, when someone thought it would be a good idea to shave his head.

I saw a promo posted on one of the boards that supposedly has Brass in it (couldn't get it to play) so it sounds like he's at least in the episode.

As for PG, the next time you're in a book store, check out a book called "The Poem I Turn To". PG has a section in there and in it he talks about how he worked on Homer's Iliad and Odyssey in Latin and Greek for six years and he published a translation of Horace's An Ode to Phyrrus. So, yeah, the guy's no slacker. And I suspect he needs to be challenged or he gets bored.

Speaking of Nick, I wonder if he's not shaving his head because of how gray he's getting. Or maybe it's because he's receding on the sides. Or maybe he and PG have some sort of pact to irritate the viewers.

So, I'm currently getting my hands on Parenthood. You'd mentioned it before, and I should have listened then. But I got busy, and promptly forgot. I had no idea it was based on the movie! Loved, loved, loved the movie! It one of those ones I can recite lines from.

Raising Hope. This one I have seen! Hilarious! I saw a preview, and just had to see it.

And of course Modern Family. Ronnie Litre! I'd forgotten about him.

Glad to hear things are going well with Tucker. Poor kitty. It's so hard when we have to make those sorts of decisions. I'm glad you didn't have to go through with it.

Good luck with the contractors. I'm married into a 'construction' family. Which means we're STILL waiting on things to get done. Things that we started 7 years ago. Arrgh! I'm threatening hubby boy with giving up entirely, and just buying a house with everything done the way we want it already. The sad thing is, he thinks that might be the only way we'll EVER get our bathroom finished. *Sighs*

I've decided the writers really missed a good oppportunity by not having Brass and Sara play off each other more. Earlier epis seemed to give them an underlying relationship that I think would have been a wonderful opportunity to develop that once Grissom left. One reason why is that the Brass/Grissom relationship would be a connection to Grissom to Sara, I think. And Brass always did kinda have a fatherly way of looking out for Sara or busting her chops, as the case may have been. This epi seemed to be ripe for it. Just my 2 random cents.

Glad Tucker is better. Quality of life is all important :-)

I have to refer you to rant I made in this post a while back. It pretty much sums up what I think about that.

As for the Brass and Grissom friendship, you forget that the writers had Brass finding out that Grissom was leaving through the grapevine. I don't believe Brass has even acknowledged that Sara is back so the odds of them playing off each other are pretty much nil.

Yeah, I think the writers dropped the ball woth Brass finding out about Grissom leaving through the grapevine. There seemed to be a genuine friendship between them, even though Grissom told Greg that the two didn't hang together in Way To Go. They did share drinks after bad cases and in King Baby they met for drinks with Catherine. There have been other little clues along the way, not to mention that Brass gave Grissom his medical Power of Attorney. But idiot writers just ignored all that.

And as for Brass and Sara, I never saw the fatherly thing that others did. And he just seemed to accept her return without blinking an eye. Of course, that could be chalked up to more idiot writing.

One thing I hope we see this season is the writers actually picking up some of the loose threads that they dropped the last couple of years, remembering the things that have happened in the past with our characters. It is pretty bad when we know the show's canon better than the writers do.

I actually agreed with most of your previous post, which I didn't comment on since many folks had already written my general feelings about the issues of Brass/Sara friendship. So, that said, I didn't mean to imply the "father" label in the prespective of Brass looking for a substitute Ellie or that Sara was searching for a father figure at all. I was only using the term to avoid the mistake of implying there was a romantic overtone to their friendship. I never, ever saw them romantically involved. I did see them in the type of firendship your first post discussed...2 people who had alot of hard knocks in life and a pride in coming thorugh the fire as pretty good guys. And just as my friends "Mom" out with each other when one notices another not taking care of themselves the way they should be, Brass sometimes pulls a fatherly chide on Sara when she needs it. And Sara has done the same to Brass occasionally. And perhaps that's the crux of the matter. I've always seen their friendship on a much deeper level than the writers ( ... )
