But it's the problem with actually knowing a lot of history, isn't it - that you can spot inaccuracies. Makes reading historical novels a bit of a trial at times.

And yes on the history as well. Bad history really bugs me - and little stuff like getting titles wrong (Sir Brown, or whatever) annoys me even in those forgivably generic Regency settings. On the other hand there are series where there's really good research and a great idea, but lousy writing, and that doesn't work either! There's one about Domesday book commissioners travelling the country, which is a perfect setup for investigating medieval shenanigans, and it's terribly wooden. I need them to work on both counts!
