La Grande Rentree

Well. It turns out business meetings in Paris are about as exiting as business meetings in the UK, but with more time confusion. I did spend a pleasing pre-bed hour watching terrible French tv on Tuesday, and I'd never been to the Bibliotheque Nationale so that was fun. I'd been warned about their terrifying canteen where you get a 3 course lunch ( Read more... )

The push for making everything smarter but human beings is ridiculous.

I'm intrigued by what you ended up with on your tray at the terrifying canteen.

I'm surprised smart implants into people are still mostly a scifi dystopia. I'm sure they will come.

I ended up with pate as a starter (there was bread to go with, serve yourself at the till from fresh baguettes, but I really didn't need it). Then a chicken portion with noodles and a sauce which was mixed vegetable gravy, more or less. And I really didn't want a pudding so I took some cheese, but with the pate and the chicken it was incredibly protein-heavy. Some other people got a lentil and vegetable dish as a main course which would have been so much better. And apparently I could have had salad for my starter. I will know better next time (I'm going to do a secondment there, though it won't be always in that building, so I'll have a chance to use it again!).

I couldn't answer that first question at all - I mean, why? What?

I know. Everything my eye randomly alighted on (hairbrush? bin?) is either already potentially smart and I want to avoid or very unsmart and I'd like to keep it that way.

They could make people smarter, then maybe we'd avoid Brexits and Trumps.

Combining skype-type communications with VR might be nice.

Only for friends, I would respectfully suggest. There are many work contacts I'd rather not... feel so very close to...

*laughs* Point. There would need to be a nice, big virtual conference table too.
