Tutorial #7 - Bright and yellowish

Apr 05, 2008 20:35

We're going from
to

01. First we're going to brighten the base by adding a curves layer.

02. Then add a color balance layer to make it more yellowish
Midtones: +49 +9 -4
Shadows: -7 0 0
Highlights: +11 +15 +5
make sure preserve luminosity is checked.

03. Duplicate the color balance layer, set it to screen, 27%.

04. Add a levels layer to darken and "flatten" the icon, I had these settings:
RGB:
Input: 0 1,00 255
Output: 15 210
Red:
Input: 24 1,92 255
Output: 0 255
Green:
Input: 18 1,55 255
Output: 0 255
Blue:
Input: 0 1,14 255
Output: 0 255

05. Add a brightness/contrast layer
Brightness: -9
Contrast: +8

06. Duplicate your base, put it on top and change the blend mode to softlight.

07. And you're finished with the coloring and can add whatever you'd like, I added this light texture which you can find at misarte.

Remember that it's different for every base so play around with the opacitites and stuff, please comment if you find this useful and post the result if you'd like :D.
