I am Iron Man

As advertised, Iron Man was AWESOME and Robert Downey Jr is amazing. Two non-spoilery comments:

Awesomness: Brass Rat screen time!

Annoyingness: You cannot graduate summa cum laude from MIT! Nor can you graduate magna cum laude or cum laude or ANYTHING FREAKING ELSE. LEARN IT, LOVE IT, HOLLYWOOD.

I do want to see that movie.

Didn't know that about MIT. Interesting.

You and elsinoreblue both. She hates that that happens.

I wouldn't be at all surprised when getting permission from MIT to use their name in the movie, MIT tells folks that they have to say that they graduated "summa..." so that is clear it is fictional.

Still peeves the true MIT students in the audience though. :)

Yay, I'm glad I'm not alone in this. *g*

I never thought of it that way-- but you could well be right. Especially given that it happens *every single time* there's an MIT graduate in a movie.

Wow, didn't know that you couldn't graduate with honors from MIT. So do you have an overall GPA, or are all classes pass / fail?

You have an overall GPA, but there's no class ranking or anything.

And if one really wants to raise (pad) one's GPA, there's always the opportunity to take a course or two up the road at Harvard :-)

Established because students tended to kill themselves (often literally) trying to get to the top.

I had no real feelings one way or the other about RDJ before this movie, but OMG. IN LOVE.

Just got back from seeing Iron Man and I loved it. I actually am not a fan of IM, but they nailed his character perfectly. And the part after the credits was sheer awesomeness.

I think the summa cum laude thing is from his comic book origins, so you can't fault the movie writers for that. In this case, you need to blame Stan Lee. :)

Well, blaming Stan Lee is always a viable option!
