You just totally summed up Emily for me! I remember at Nats this year--I turned on the TV in the middle of her short program and I remember thinking "Wow! Who's that? She's just on fire!" And then I realized it was Emily. She's not always the most technically solid skater, but you never get the feeling she's out there punching a clock.

Unlike some people...Sasha should decide whether she wants to be a celebrity or a skater. I think she really enjoys the celebrity stuff more. A few fewer Oscar parties and more focus on skating and maybe she wouldn't wipe herself out so often.

And I hope this finally shuts up some of the skating fans who were saying "The Olympics won't REALLY count because the one who'd be guaranteed the gold can't be there because of the age rule." Sorry, if Mao were really all that and a bag of chips she'd be World Champion. Heck, she'd be on the podium. Enough, already. Give that jumping bean time to grow.

And on the subject of unitards, death to unitards. 'Nuff said.

Mao Asada couldn't have been on the podium as she did not compete in Calgary, nor did she compete at the four continents championship in February (her sister, Mai, did). Mao is still too young for both. The same goes for Yu-Na Kim of Korea, who just won world juniors over Mao. Both are likely to give Kimmie a run for her money next year, when they will be age-eligible for all events.

I agree that "the Olympics didn't count" is rubbish, though.

I think it's funny that the focus is Mao, Mao, Mao and yet Yu-Na Kim obliterated her at Junior Worlds. Hee.

Anyone saying the Olympics don't "count" because of the age thing is a very stupid person. Rules are rules. The rules were put in place specifically to prevent children like Mao Asada (or Yu-Na Kim) from winning Olympics or Worlds because they're so tiny and can jump like crazy. If Mao can still do triple axels in four years at age 19, then good for her, go and get that Olympic medal. But for now, enough. Shizuka is the Olympic champion, no qualifiers, no asterisks.

And really, who would you rather watch? Mao, whom I'll admit is entertaining in a cutesy kind of way, or Shizuka? I haven't seen Yu-Na Kim skate so I'll reserve judgement. (There was another thing about the whole "OMG Mao beat Irina! Waive the rule for her!" thing--if they'd known that there was going to be talk of rule-chaning, I'm betting the Korean federation would have sent Yu-Na Kim to different events to try and get her to the Olympics. At least the Japanese federation had the sense to keep their mouths shut on the subject.)

I was just irritated by Sasha! She could be SO good, why does she have to choke so bad??? She looked pretty upset at the end though, so I felt a little bit bad. ;)

I felt REALLY bad for Joannie. Apparently, two of her close friends (one was a training partner) died in a fatal car accident this month. A reporter asked her about it and she ran away to her coach just sobbing. :( (I don't know if the commentators on your channel talked about that.) it was really sad to see that story, then watch her skate and not pull it together.

That's part of why I'm so annoyed by Sasha! She could be SO GOOD, and it's like she doesn't care enough or something. Ugh.

They mentioned a little bit about Joannie's accident, but they only said the training partner died, and it was only mentioned in passing while she skated. Poor girl. :(
