If you know the big spoiler for CoE, you can probably get away without watching it. There's no mention at all of the events of CoE throughout all of EoT, but the one scene with Barrowman is given a little more context if you know why he's so miserable looking at the start of it.

No, you don't have to watch CoE first. But you should watch it, because it's pretty freaking awesome, even if sad things happen.
