To be fair, Harley's certifiably nuts and has more reason to kill herself than most characters in that universe. But you know they won't kill her off, or if they do she'll somehow come back from the dead -- she's too popular, and in comic book land Death is Cheap.
What bothers me worse is that they apparently don't have the courage let Batwoman marry a woman.
You have a point (especially considering that she also went through a horribly abusive relationship). However, that doesn't change the fact that using an out of context "sexy suicide scene" as a means to showcase budding new artistic talent is pretty messed up. That scene could very well work in the context of the book (though given DC's track record with Harley post B:TAS, I HIGHLY doubt it :P). But it's kinda skeevy when put out there on it's own.
Gah, I saw that contest and I could not believe they were for real! I honestly thought it had to be a spoof based on how idiot DC is being! But there it was on their website. Who in their right mind thought that was a good idea!?
The whole concept is pretty WTF and in excruciatingly bad taste, to say the least.
Batman, on the other hand, is hilarious. What makes it work is that the toaster isn't plugged in! It's a small, but perfect detail.
IMHO, Harley should be nibbled to death by rabid ducks. She should roll around in breadcrumbs, and then hang out at the local pond. It would certainly make an interesting few frames.

Thanks! Personally, my favorite detail was Bat-Duckie! :)
