Christian Feminism Journal

Sarah Grimke was asked what men could do to help support the feminist movement. Her response was, "I ask no favors for my sex. I surrender not our claim to equality. All I ask of our brethren is that they will take their feet from off our necks and permit us to stand upright on that ground which God designed us to occupy."
What does it mean to have a foot on my neck? )

I'm kind of glad I read this. These are things that, as a guy, I know women go through all the time, but it helps to have it sink in a bit more. These things are always different when someone we care about is associated with the stigmas and stories.

I would give the male version of this pressure to look a certain way, but I feel way too much like an oppressor at the moment to let that happen.

Thank you for reading. The purpose was not to make you feel like an oppressor at all! I just...was really surprised at how much I came up with when I ruminated on the concept. I'd be interested to read your side of the story -- for the story itself and because anything you write is worth reading (in my limited experience).
