Mine used to escort me babysitting in my late teens. He'd follow me up to a couple of streets away, and either sit on the windowsill once the householders had left and yowl to be let in, or wait somewhere in the area for me, and escort me home again. If I was going more than a couple of streets away, I'd run so that he couldn't follow me - I was terrified he'd get lost.
My childhood cat used to follow me to the off licence (for coke & crisps) wait for me under a parked car and then walk me home. Ginger Tom has shown himself to be much more cautious normally. Very funny watching him walk along tail raised and fully fluffed just in case anything thought about attacking him :)

I have to remember to lock them all in the house before I set off. Half my neighbours wake up to 'Jinx you *bitch* - get in the house NOW!'
