"The Man In Black fled across the desert, and the Gunslinger followed."

While browsing the bookstore on Thursday before game, I came across the Stephen King section, and sure enough, there was the majority of the "Dark Tower" series. Figuring now was the time to man up if there ever was one, I bought "The Gunslinger" and read the entire thing in a mad 48-hour dash. I also picked up the first issue of the Marvel " ( Read more... )

It took awhile to get me to start the series but I
was glad I did. The emotional depth just gets deeper
from book 2 and up. So get ready to smell the roses
and have a lobster dinner and we will say Thankee-Sai.

Hi there, I saw your blog title on DC Blogs and it caught my eye. I have read all but book seven of the Dark Tower series over the past year. The books are incredible--they only get better! I've been reading a non-Dark Tower book in between each volume to savor the experience. I hope you enjoy!

The Gunslinger is one of my fav books that functions as either a stand-alone, or as a part of a series. I love it. It was one of the pleasure books I took with me to college, and I've not read it in far too long.

I originally got interested in it by reading a short story where Roland, in his travels, comes across this group of vampiric nuns--Sisters of Mercy, if you will. It was in a short horror compendium, and was written by King. It intrigued me, Roland's char, and made me want to read the actual book. I'm horribly behind though, as I've not gotten past Wizard and Glass. Glad you like though.

That short story would be The Little Sisters of Eluria. Originally published in the 80's in a short story book of many authors, and later published in one of his own books comprised of short stories.

The Dark Tower was one of the first things Rob & I had in common. :> We're huge fans. If only Eastwood wasn't now looking too old to play Roland on the silver screen. :< Once you start reading the books, it becomes very difficult to not rush out and get the next one IME. And now you've brought it up and it's going to have to go back on my reading list (which is horribly long right now)again. :P

I'm not normally one for drawn-out stories, I have a short attention span. Robert Jordan has nothing on fantasy epics and is an annoying hack IMnshO. In a different life, he was probably Charles Dickens.

The Dark Tower is hands down, the best writing King has ever done. The man is just spooky good. Once you finish the tower, start reading the other books that tie into the series. There's references through lots of his horror novels.

Little Sisters of Eleuria! That was it. Thanks. My mom got it in a compilation from the library, and it was one of the stories that had me fascinated.
