So. There is a person on my flist who is newly arrived into the Weird and Wonderful World that is the online Tolkien fandom. She wants to find her way around the Tolkien-related Intarwebs and meet fellow Tolkien nerds who might be interested in not just discussing the inner workings of The Silmarillion but also share an enjoyment of fanfic, random

LJ user name: Sinneahtes (calling me Niki is fine as well).
Favourite Tolkien book: The Silmarillion
Favourite Tolkien character: Finrod (Felagund)
Favourite Tolkien scene, moment or storyline (if you have one): I think I've reread "The Debate of Finrod and Andreth" (I don't feel like looking up the untranslated title right now) most often. The Council of Elrond was also kind of fun for me.
Give some brief idea of when you first 'discovered' Tolkien, what his work means to you, what you love about it, etc: Despite my mom pestering me during my preteen years to try reading The Hobbit, I was only introduced to Tolkien and his work when the Fellowship of the Ring came out in 2001. I quickly devoured the LotR books, and though I've never really liked Tolkien's writing style, I fell in love with many of his characters and his world. Desire for more of it lead me to ( ... )

Favourite Tolkien book: I might have to say The Two Towers, but I could just as easily say Sir Gawain and the Green Knight
Favourite Tolkien character: Faramir or Halbarad
Favourite Tolkien scene, moment or storyline: I've always enjoyed reading the pure mythos of the story of creation in The Silmarillion. It gives me shivers each time I think of the grand chorus of creation ( ... )

That's how I feel for FotR. I have tried really hard to feel the same way about the other two and I almost manage it for the first half of TTT but then my patience runs out, unfortunately. That said, I dread to think what would have happened to it if someone else had been in charge, so... *shrugs*

Website recommendations: CouncilofElrond.com. Includes Tolkien language dictionaries, encyclopedia, essays, translation of English names into Tolkien languages, and general awesomeness. Also contains self-teach lessons in Sindarin. The Encyclopedia of Arda. RealElvish.net for all your Tolkien language needs and phrasebooks. She did some translating for me on one of my fics.
What other fandoms do you have? tons, but I'm not as imaginationally (I know, it's not a word, and it's the second time I've used it) invested in many of them.
Shameless Pluggery And Own Trumpet Blowing Section: My ff.net page (be gentle; some of it's slightly embarrassing at points lol). I don't make many lotr icons (since so many do it better!), but there are a few under this tag.

Macros. You know! Like LOLcat. ;D There are several now around for all sorts of fandoms (I follow ones for Bleach and Doctor Who) but WAY back when before LOLcat even existed, people were 'captioning' images from the films. I used to collect them and some were hysterically funny.
Thanks for the rec. Your cheque's in the post. ¬¬ lol! The Care and Feeding of Hobbits! I love that. Not read it in SO LONG, but it's just glorious. And the Manuals were so well done too - are any still around? FF.net deleted the lot, the idiots. But then they also deleted OFUM which still beggars my belief, frankly. And of course, Bagenders FTW every time. I have images from those stories burned indelibly into my BRAIN!
