Cool. I have a working stereo again. Sounds like the static I was getting when I played CDs was due to the tuner's issues, though I'll let it play for a bit and see if the problem recurs ( Read more... )

you can't go wrong with an iPod. although 80gigs is a hell of a lot of room for anyone.

It's way more than I anticipate ever needing (though I have over 1800 songs in iTunes), but they were sold out of the 30Gb model. I could probably have bought one at Future Shop or Best Buy, admittedly.

You know, depending on the age of your cd player... it may be more cost efficient to buy a new one they are sooo cheap.

Thanks - I hadn't considered that. When they call with the estimate, I'll have to check into that.

Though it's not that old - I got it at the same time as I got the rest of the components, about 9 years ago. I don't remember how much I paid for it, but it wasn't all that cheap (I think I paid something like $1000-1200 for the entire system).

I suspect that the problem was most likely caused by my own laziness and stupidity in leaving it on much of the time, rather than the age of the player; the guy in the service department thought the problems I've been having were likely due to overheating causing a capacitor to burn out.
